Dear Norton Experts,

Please advice if the following questions :-

Is there a way to tell when NIS2009 is in Slient mode (ie:- different color Icon on System Tray).

Has anyone experience this problem with SILENT MODE.  Last night I turned ON my NIS2009 silent  mode for 1 hr and it failed to turn

OFF after 1hr.  It continue way passed the 1 hour mark.   After I reboot, the Silent Mode were turn OFF.

Shouldn't the SILENT MODE automatically turn OFF or ON after designated timing.  Or user has to reboot the machine?

Thank you

Did you set a timer?

Set for 1 hour......but it did not turn OFF.

I set from the System Task Bar, click on NIS2009 Icon, Turn ON Silent Mode and choose 1 hr.

Isn't this correct?  Or should user set the timer from the NIS2009 module?

Should be ok than.

After reboot it works again?

Yes, the Silent Mode was turned OFF after I rebooted. (I did not turn Silent Mode ON again.  But it was turned OFF after rebooting.

There must be a bug or something, it makes no sense that user must reboot the system in order to revert the setting.

Correct. Could you try again but with another time stamp?

Silent mode is off by default.

That’s not the problem. The problem is that he turned it ON for one hour and it never turned off anymore

I have tried it again using the TURN ON SILENT MODE....set it to 2hrs.  Same thing.  The silent mode could not TURN OFF by itself.  I had to reboot the PC (or manually) turn on the Mode to revert the setting.

I am sure it is happening....has any one experience this......It is a minor bug.

Thank you

What else do you have running in the backround?

The poor man keeps asking if anyone else has used the timer and experienced the same problem.  And then all he gets by way of response is advice about his setup.

Let me repeat this for him:  Has anyone else set the timer for silent mode?  Did it work?

Please, no other suggestions about computer setup until this question has been answered.

Sheesh.

I just set mine for 1 hour.

I will get back to you after that time period with a report.

You are a veritable saint.

Thank you MiJ for your help in asking others and Phil_D for your reply.

I am not too sure why my Silent mode in ON mode does not revert to OFF after designated periods.

I do not think there are issue with other programs (since I have been using them together wth NIS2009 since Installed).

The programs running are :- ThreadFire, Notebook Computer Resource & Obit Downloader.

Anyway, I will trouble shoot NIS 2009 tonight again.

Thank you

After one hour, Silent Mode automatically reverted to back to OFF.

Edit: This activity is recorded in Recent History as "Manual Silent Mode turned on" and "Manual Silent Mode turned off". The time stamp shows exactly one hour.

Sea_Monster, have you checked your history for this event?

Why do you have Orbit running in the back round? I also tried this and it shut back to off after leaving on for about an hour.

I found the caused.....

A FREEWARE  audio & Video Conversion Utility was the caused of the problem.

I executed the audio & video Conversion utility for convering some Video files and I used Silent Mode ON in NIS2009. After 1 to 2 hrs of

conversion, NIS2009 refused to turn OFF Silent Mode.

There were no others problems with other programs....so far.

This has to be it.

Thank you

This is why I posted and asked you if your running any other back round tasks. Glad you found it. BTW this is about the 4th thread I have seen where people put the blame on Norton then find out that its something else causing there issue like Spy Sweeper or Ad Muncher.

Thank you Dieselman743,

I guess it is human nature nature to blame it on others.......Monsters are no exception.

Perhaps, NIS2009 is SO NEW & SO GOOD, that users cannot see other faults except pinning it on NIS2009.

On the other hand, most users do not know where the faults lays....(ie:- I was using NIS2008 and the same conversion utility) I had no problems.  But not the case in NIS2009. Who is made a scape-goat for the ills of faults...regardless of whatever it is

I don't blame anyone.

Thank you can take care.

And, thank you, crew, for taking the time to test this.  What I've found over the years is that once a question is posed, you aren't going to be able to communicate with the person until it is answered.  The question just hangs there over everything taking place.

Diesel, your patience and helpfulness was great.  I know you had the right idea, but it does no good until you convince the other person.  Bravo.
