After doing a LiveUpdate I now can’t use MS Edge as it’s blocked and also Outlook won’t download emails properly, I have to turn off Smart Firewall then it’s ok. Can anyone help as it’s so annoying.
@FrustratedUser2 Reset your Norton firewall and restart the computer. Lets see if that clears the issue.
SA
Have reset Norton Firewall and restarted the laptop, and despite a pop up telling me MS Edge was allowed I still get the same message “no internet”. I can use Chrome and Norton safe browser with no problems, it’s only Edge.
Be sure you are using the Restart command. Not Shutdown and startup again.
Suffering from the same issue. Installed AV+ on a new Win11 laptop and it worked fine yesterday.
Today Edge can not access the internet.
I reset the firewall and rebooted now Edge can access the internet, but I lost the customized settings I had set up last night so now have to do it all again ![]()
As this machine gets closer to production use, resetting the firewall will become progressively less attractive …
What is the real fix?
Thanks!
Jim
I’ve kind of solved it by getting rid of Edge and using Firefox now everything works a treat.
I reset the firewall and Edge worked ok for a while then got blocked again…
The Microsoft Store app. is also broken by whatever Norton is doing … ![]()
@NCHoser Can you post a screenshot of what is being blocked by Norton? Anything you can get from your Norton history would be great to see.
SA
I’m new to the app, but when I look at security history I do not see ANYTHING that is being blocked,
but when I turn the firewall off Edge starts working again. Firefox has no issues.
I have Network → “automatic Program Control” set to “ASK”
but I don’t get asked anything…
The traffic rules are numerous, but I have not messed with them…
Thank you, I will have a look at this on my laptop later this evening and compare what I see.

Do any Norton employees monitor these threads?
Is my case a one off?
This is a new and unencumbered laptop I’ve installed almost no s/w on it at this point…
Seems crazy
Yes they do monitor the threads. Allow me to escalate the thread for you for a response from Norton.
@Gayathri_R Please forward to the appropriate team for assistance and a possible solution.

Thank you for posting on the Norton Community. As @SoulAsylum mentioned, we have already made a note of this issue and we are looking into it. Once I have an update, I’ll post here. Apologies for the inconvenience. Thank you.
After the latest liveupdates to norton the problem has spread on my machine to include Firefox.
This thread has been open since July 10th…
Disabling Norton firewall fixes the problem in both browsers…
I can’t say I’m impressed.
Well if that happens to me I shall be getting rid of Norton completely and switching to Bitdefender, it’s bad enough not being able to use Edge but if Firefox gets blocked too then that’ll be the last straw.
@Gayathri_R it’s been about a week now, any progress?
Thanks,
Jim
I’ve been travelling without the new machine so only asking about fixes to have them available on my return home. Well here I am, home.
I launch the Win11 Pro install check for norton updates and reboot.
Check for more updates reboot.
This problem started with just edge not having internet access
then progressed to include Firefox being blocked
NOW it also blocks attempts to connect to wifi.
All problems are resolved if I turn off the firewall.
I reset the firewall to baseline restart again no change
check for updates none are needed restart again
Still broken.
A MONTH LATER
REALLY?
This is how long I’ve been using Norton products:
Guess how much longer that relationship is going to continue ![]()
Same issues, the last couple of weeks - disappointed to see no follow-up here…
Is everyone on the latest version 25.8.10387?
SA
i have the same issue. everything started after i restarted settings. i use norton firewall automatic program control in ASK mode. i restarted program control and traffic rules, then microsoft edge stop accessing the internet. it works when i switch to smart mode but i would like to use ASK as i used to…
edit same thing start happening to google chrome too……
