Steam is not working with norton

After I installed norton security on my pc my steam is acting weird. My steam says I am in offline mode and it acts like I am but I am not. I can play games online and join servers but anything else that requires a internet connection doesn't work. If I try to set my steam back to online it doesn't work. Steam support says I probably have a connection error and I am pretty sure this is caused by norton because this issue started the moment I installed norton.

Does anyone know something I can do about it.

Hi xotiko:

I'm not a gamer, but you might also find some helpful hints about scan exclusions, firewall rules and placing Norton in Quiet Mode when your Steam games are playing in these threads:

As a test, temporarily disable your Norton Smart Firewall by right-clicking on the Norton icon in your system tray and choosing Disable Smart Firewall (or go to Settings | Firewall |  General | Smart Firewall and change the setting to OFF).   If your Steam game runs correctly while the firewall is temporarily disabled see the Steam support article Using a Firewall with Steam and modify the programs rules in your Norton Smart Firewall (Settings | Firewall | Program Control) to ensure your Steam executables are allowed full access through the firewall.

Your best bet is contacting steam support and give them the opportunity to help remediate the steam client issues you are seeing.

Well the problem is indeed not norton, I thought so because the problem started at the same time I installed norton. The above didn't help but thanks anyway for trying to help me!

From within steam, Steam>Settings>Web Browser>Delete web browser cache & Delete all browser cookies. Delete them all per this article. Restart steam. One other thing to give a shot is opting into the steam beta or opting out if you are already opted in. Norton isn't your problem, its your steam client.

Cheers

Thanks SoulAsylum for your comment but unfortunately this didn't work I reset my firwall and nothing changed, I also dubble checked my steam setting but it really says I am offline but I can't put it back to online again.

Hello xotiko. In your Norton product open the dashboard, under firewall click RESET on the firewall. Reboot. Also. Check your settings on steam, you can be set under "invisible mode" and still have a total functioning connection. I use this setting religiously on Steam.
