I can locate the first 2, but not the 3rd. What do I need to do to fix this?

You have a Vista OS problem.  You can read more about it and how to fix it here.

I think the error code has to do with Norton

Your call, Calls.

It is a Microsoft error code, actually.  A system error, if it affects Norton it will report the part that is being affected.  There is a link in dbrisendine's post that might prove informative.

couple oof strange aspects on this

  • I was actually never notified that there was a   problem, it was only because I looked at the logs that I noticed it
  • The log entry doesn't really guide me to take any action
  • it seems like I'm able to get my Norton updates without issue
  •  I have already downloaded that particular update from Windows about 2 months ago The entry was dated for 10/6/10, but it did not appear in the logs until 10/9/10
  • The ccSvcHst.exe version it refers to, is an older version of the ccSvcHst.exe that I have

There was not an MS update mentioned in the article I referenced but steps to repair / check your base OS service readiness.  I was referring to the repair part of the article (due to some of the other threads you have posted in the past).

It's not a critical error if things are working and you can get updates, especially from MS.

By the way, most "error reporting" from Norton are nothing to worry about, as long as things are in the green; it's just reports to Symantec about how the program works, helping the technicians to, for example, improbe future releases. If you get an "error report" and things are green, you don't have to do anything. The report is for Symantec, not the user.

So then it is NOT a Vista OS issue?

To Dibrisidine- What I meant to indicate is that tool has been run on my machine already

Yes, it is an MS issue, but apparently Norton is affected by it.

The report in Norton is so Symantec will know that the MS OS error is affecting Norton's processes; the programmers may want to try and code the product so that certain OS problems do not affect Norton's processes.

If the tool has been run on you system and you still have those errors showing, then you will need to repair the OS to fix them.

Calls, there you go looking at the logs and worrying yourself again. As told previously, you will be notified directly if there is anything that the product wants you to do, not through the logs. There's nothing that you need to do. If you had the 2011 product installed I'd tell you to right-click on the entry and choose Copy and then paste the entry into a message here but I don't think that Copy is an option in the 2010 version. For the 2010 version you have to select the entry and then choose More Details and copy the Error ID into a message.

Thanks Reese- So the previous directions on this post, that I need to fix something in Vista OS, is not an issue?

That the information presented in the log is just that information?

Does it mean that I wont get my updates, Microsoft AND NORTON?

From what you have posted, it looks like NIS is reporting a problem that once. If you don't see a similar error after rebooting there's nothing to worry about. I didn't see enough information in your post (ErrorID) to uniquely understand your issue but the Gurus might have, or, might have been able to correlate some of the other posts to determine that a Vista OS issue may be causing NIS to report this problem. I'm not familiar with the particular Microsoft update they've referenced. I also don't see anything in the referenced Microsoft update that would prevent you from getting either Microsoft or Norton updates although you might fail to install a few specific Microsoft updates, but you'd be told about that every time you try to run Windows update.

So if one had uninstalled and reinstalled NIS 2010 after that error message, and then one does NOT see that error message then there is no issue?

If you aren't seeing any entries in the error reporting after any reboot then there isn't an issue, not just after an uninstall and reinstall.

dbrisendine- Does an error like this mean that I am NOT getting my Norton updates??  I think I am, but want to make sure that this Vista OS issue is not causing updates to be missed. I also am getting my microsoft updates

when I followed that link to the tool, it said

Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. You do not have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.

So I went ahead and ran my microsoft updates and it didi not give me that tool. So should I still download it manually?

Calls:

Microsoft sends updates and fixes as they apply to your machine.  If you did not get it, it does not apply.  If you install it anyway because you think you need it, it could cause more problems than it fixes.
