Thread for version 24.xx issues and suggestions

Norton needs a public/private beta channel.

Bonsoir @SoulAsylum

Je partage votre point de vue.

Cordialement,

Indeed so. The sole reason for creating this thread was/is to have all the issues in one place so that. The folks at Norton can read the contents/context of each post in autonomy. I guarantee they are. Although I do not feel this version of Norton leaves any system “compromised”, it has compromised our ability to make things work on the fly, without, having to be chained to a phone with support and hope, someone is competent and can correct the issues. The issues here will be worked through, and most definitely NOT be done all at once. In the meantime, if myself or someone here can provide a way to stay on a prior version and remain on it, use an alternate means to stay protected that is a win win for everyone.

@Gribouille342 Thank you!!

Same here. Have used Norton’s for years. No more.

I feel the bigger problem is that Gen Digital is no longer using Symantec tools. They are now using Avast. So we are getting the free avast software masked as a new Norton product. Which isnt right thing to do.

I really hope v24 goes away, and 22 gets put back. This is a really bad release and to force it on users is terrible. What software company doesnt allow a rollback?

I really hope the core team at Symantec are still there and get this fixed ASAP. Gen Digital is terrible, and this new product of theirs shows.

Symantec need to be on their own again as this was a terrible start for a new product post merger. This is the problem when companies get way too big. Quality control and care goes right out the window.

I suggest that you run the Windows System->Command Prompt with Administrative Privileges and type sfc /scannow in the Command window. This scans the Windows system for any corrupt Windows files and updates them. I have found that this helps fix many Windows issues. Just a suggestion.

Bonjour,

Cordialement,

No difference with the re-install. 2 times out of ten, I can use internet like normal, the other 8 times I have to wait and watch Norton spinning around. This can take 5 to 15 minutes. An hour ago I just quit after 20 minutes but it worked now. Wow.

I can’t use my computer because Norton is using it. And there’s not much need for virus protection if you can’t use internet, anyway. When it’s loading, there’s maybe between 7 and 13 listings under task manager and using lots of mb’s. Seem like more than I remember the previous version using.

I’m actually going to try to call Norton now. Had other plans for the day, but sure Norton will fix it right up, lickety-split.

I have the same problem.

@mandc . You might want to take a look at ‘Norton’s security history’ after a full hour (give it all a chance to register there) when it was spinning up and see what kind of entries are there.

My bet is, if you call Norton they are definitely going to want to re-install it. That’s the route they took with me, and when I saw many others like you had no luck doing it I declined. They firmly believe there is nothing wrong with this product V24. Good luck Amigo.

What I see in Task Manager on any given bootup with version 24.xx, evidently this is normal for the new release.

And each time we open the UI several more tasks appear under “apps”.

Something that popped into the thinking this evening, regarding the previous version and .wal files accumulating in the C:\Windows\Temp directory. Although there are a lot of .tmp files there now they contain zero bits of data 0 kb. Something I will continue to monitor going forward.

Not much help
but I can confirm I see the same exact in my Task Manager Win10 22H2

Thanks for the feedback and confirmation. Just watching this since a similar issue occurred some time ago with a different file type.

I am not going to pile on about how bad this version is. Enough folks have already done that.
I have 2 issues, that I want to check with folks here.

  1. Browser Protection - Where is the option ask me, instead of no option and just block what I am doing in the browser?
  2. The software updater version is whack. It tells me that the Edge Browser needs to be updated, but I go to Edge, and it is up to date.
  3. Last issue, looks like a CSS-related issue, where it loses all formatting in notifications, as well as in the app.

Thanks in Advance.

Issue: Installation Norton 360 “Auto Protect” possibly interferes with Windows Update KB5044384

Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (v26100.2033, v26100.2161 after finally a successful update)
ASUS Z690 Hero, 12900k, 32GB 6200MT/s DDR5, RTX-4900
Norton 360 v24.10.9535

Trying to update (Windows Update) “Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5044384)” fails unless I temporarily disable Norton 360’s “Auto Protect”. Failed a number of times (5) at various percentage update values (81~93%) until I disabled Auto Protect. In addition, I had also tried to install (and failed) KB5044384 using downloaded files from the Windows Update Catalog.

I’d chalk this up to Norton being a bit aggressive with the update however, my second machine (Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (v26100.2033, now v26100.2161); EVGA Z370 Classified, 9900k, 32GB 3600MT/s DDR4, RTX-3090; Norton 360 v24.10.95350) didn’t need “Auto Protect” disabled to successfully install KB5044384.

This version is awful. Each computer that I installed the new version, the program knocked me off my wifi router. The only way to get back online was to reboot the router. Not really a big deal, but it should work. Also Quick Scan now takes one hour, instead of 15 minutes.
