Thread for version 24.xx issues and suggestions

Everyone. Lets open a thread where we can links posts already created regarding issues with the latest version. So that. The global Admins/Moderators can see everything in one place vice being posted all over. If that sounds good to everyone, please add your issues here. I will do my best to locate, and add links to other threads for review here. Hoping we can get things to the Dev teams as fast as possible by keeping things tidy and in one place. Below are my starters for the thread.

  • No local backup. Instead of cloud backup data cache to local hard drive how about adding ability to do local backup period!!! No one wants to pay for more cloud storage when they have their own solutions readily available.

  • Why do we need to authenticate login to setup, view or remove backup sets when we are already logged into Norton via the UI? This is redundant.

  • Cannot edit firewall rules

  • Windows context menu for file scanning does nothing when clicked to scan a file. “Select scan for viruses”.

  • UI sees browser(s) installed wants extensions installed when they’re already installed, when pressing the back arrow to go back to the main, UI the UI freezes, causing a full exit to the system tray to resolve.

  • Software Updater is active, we should have the ability to disable or remove it entirely

  • UI threatens to disable Norton on some devices requiring a sign in when I am already signed in

As I posted, does NOT work on my side and my install. I am on the current version of Windows 10 and 11. Glad it works on your end. I will run LU shortly to see whether anything changes as such.

The Anti-Spam Filter has disappeared from the menu in Outlook. Here is the reply I received from bjm regarding this issue “We have removed the Anti-Spam functionality because we weren’t able to provide the correct level of user experience we wanted. This only applies to the spam filter itself. The rest of the email security features have been retained in Email Protection.”

I had to remove from my PC as all websites were a white screen with the scrolling donut of doom. Now all I have is defender from Microsoft. So disappointed with Norton which I had for a very long time.

DaveJ. Bjm is a Guru like myself we are NOT Norton employees. So the “we” in his posted statement is a misnomer for that reason. The anti-spam feature has been antiquated for a very long time. It didn’t really provide much regarding “ports” that were being scanned other than the standard POP ( post office protocol ) on port 25 and 100. Ports could also not be added. Removing it made sense for one reason, it didn’t provide actual tangible protection. Conversely, with all the new creature feature modules being added to the current SKU’s one would think that rather than continued releasing of BETA offerings to fix a feature that is wanted AND needed. Its not like we users haven’t been asking!!

Liz_J. Reset the firewall on your devices. I too have long load times on both Opera GX and Edge. Not every instance of usage but frequent nevertheless. Firewall reset corrects the issue. BTW!! This new version and its firewall have a steep learning curve which I believe is causing this.

Adding to the issues list:

Version 24.xx firewall has a steep learning curve causing long browser load times and in some instances browsers don’t load at all.

Addition: New version firewall HTTPS scanning blocks local access to local device logins. Disabling on some devices corrects the issue.

Hello @DaveJ
We [here] is in quotes - with the reference link = New Norton 360 app [here]

We have removed the Anti-Spam functionality = refers to Norton

And we’ve made a few changes to existing features = refers to Norton

Thank you, I will try that

Manual LiveUpdate and Software Updater needs the Domain ncc.avast.com that´s new since V24.x otherwise it shows Offline.

Ncc.avast.com delivers no Data for the LiveUpdate.

And the most Users who using e.g. Pihole or Adguard or something will have Problems.

Please correct this, thanks.

Suggestions: Bring back Norton Power Eraser in Norton 360.

@Starfox Running LU manually my side on version 24.xx doesn’t attempt connections to the URL you posted. Matter of fact that URL doesn’t support HTTPS which is why Norton would prevent it if it is blocking it your side. You can disable HTTPS scanning in settings ( not recommended ) to allow it to connect but for what reason!!
Software Updater is another monkey that has no need being in the Norton offerings. It serves a duplicate purpose most software vendors will have their products perform updates scanning on their own. SU can also lead to issues where incorrect updates are applied. We Guru’s suggest as the community does not to use it as a precaution.

I now have 24.xx and can no longer find the “block permanently” option for blocking network access for a program… am I just missing it?

Unfortunately I have to disagree, if I block the domain ncc.avast.com (e.g. with Pi-hole DNS or Adguard DNS) for the network then I can no longer carry out a Norton Live update manually. It says “You are offline.” If I take this domain “ncc.avast.com” out of the block list for my network, Norton LiveUpdate will run manually

Here Pi-hole ncc.avast.com Domain blocked:

disabled

LiveUpdate “You are offline” can´t update manually

And now Pihole allow the Domain ncc.avast.com:

allowed

And LiveUpdate works manually

Same on Adguard DNS, and this Domain (ncc.avast.com) is in the Standard Blocklist off Pi-hole and Adguard (Stevenblacks Blocklist)

FWIW!! Your link lands with the notification below for me. Norton live update runs as expected without any domain restriction notices. Using Adguard DNS / Pi-hole would appear to be the issues. You are modifying your DNS upstream, in a manner that you are modifying your provider DNS. Norton of course has issues with that sinkhole and its legitimacy. I use CloudFlare within my router settings as well as PC settings without the need for 3rd party offerings to do that for me. No issues my side.

Yes ok its your opinion.
Before i had for years Norton 360 v22 and lower and also Pihole or Adguard DNS without Problems. Other Apps run also fine.
But now on Norton 360 v24 i have Problems with LiveUpdate showing “You are offline” and on the Pihole or DNS Side in my System are no changes.

So in my opinion this is a worse Norton than before v22. Since Update to v24 “You are offline” …

I tested other Products like ESET without Problems with Pihole or Adguard DNS.

And the other thing is why Norton need this Domain for Liveupdate ? I think it´s tracking but that is my own opinion.

If i block this Domain (ncc.avast.com) without using Pihole or Adguard DNS e.g. with my Router it´s the same “You are offline”

I agree with you. Just because I DON’T see the issue on my end doesn’t negate its validity. I am not trying to make that statement. Truth is. Version 24.xx is riddled with issues, I’m just trying to convey that. Using a none HTTPS URL isn’t something I would ever bake into my product if I were a business. Going to the unsafe URL page and viewing its context I see this line:XHTML namespace , this is being used for namespace purposes. Probably an error in the API creation for this product.

The “you are offline” issue has been present from the first release through the current version of 24.xx as well. The purpose of this thread is putting it all in open forums, in one place and easy for the Dev’s to review.
