What started as an attempt to read a a blank email from Norton has gone sideways. I followed the recomendations from search support. Step 2 had me download and reinstall. I then was unable to get into the new version. I got this message: The newest version of our Norton product (22.x.x.x) requires SSE2 compatibility to run and does not support your current hardware. We have detected that your computer is running an older processor that does not support SSE2 CPU instructions. We recommend that you upgrade your computer with the latest hardware to enjoy the full protection of the Norton product.
In case you cannot upgrade your hardware, contact Norton Support. OK, how do I get my old version back, without plunking down for a new computer?
Just checking in to see if you've made any progress.
Were you able to confirm that your CPU does not support the SSE2 instruction set, and if so was Norton Customer Support (https://www.norton.com/chat) able to provide a download link an old Norton v21.7.0.11 offline installer?
Further to Soul Asylum's request for information about your OS and CPU specs, do you recall the name and version of the Norton product previously installed on your computer and whether LiveUpdates were able to deliver daily virus definitions updates and other protection definitions? Note that a utility like Piriform's free Speccy will confirm if your CPU is able to support the SSE2 instruction set that was introduced into Intel chips with the Pentium 4 in 2001 and AMD processors in 2003. From my old Vista SP2 computer I purchased in 2008:
If Norton Support does agree to provide you with a download link to full offline standalone v21.x (.exe) installer, be sure to run the installer while you are disconnected from the internet and immediately turn OFF the setting at Settings | Administrative Settings | Automatic Download of New Version to prevent Norton from attempting to upgrade to a v22.x product. Unfortunately, I believe Norton v21.x products will still attempt a forced upgrade to a v22.x product the first time you connect to the internet and run a Live Update to patch your installation, even if Automatic Download of New Version is disabled (see the 08-Mar-2020 announcement Active Customers in Legacy Versions are Being Upgraded). Even worse, if you disable all LiveUpdates in a v21.x product at Settings | Antivirus | Updates | Automatic LiveUpdate to prevent this forced upgrade then you will likely be unable to update your virus definitions using the Intelligent Updater [see anon743's 25-Mar-2022 Problem with Intelligent Updater File about problems they encountered trying to keep virus definitions up-to-date with Norton Internet Security (NIS) v21.7.0.11.].

Hello Carl. What is the OS you are running? Could you give us the CPU specs for review, such as the processor type and maker? Some older operating systems are in what is termed "maintenance mode" and will only get updated to a certain version. They will not receive newer versions having added features for the exact reason stated in the message you are seeing.
