Hi,
after upgrading Norton to version 24, I have encountered an issue with Intrusion Prevention and File and Printer Sharing (Samba) protection. It blocks the IP address of my laptop on my local network.
Here’s what I’ve tried
Added the IP address to Intrusion Prevention - Exclusions:
Set up a smart firewall rule:
Networks are set to Private:
Despite these configurations, Norton continues to block my laptop. Interestingly, the blocking is inconsistent — it happens about 90% of the time, but 10% of the time, it allows the connection. The behavior appears to be random and independent of my settings. For example - On one occasion, when I deleted the firewall rule, and removed the exclusion, Norton allowed the connection. On another occasion, with private networks, a configured firewall rule, and the exclusion in place, Norton blocked the connection.
Additionally, I tried resetting the firewall rules to their default settings, but that did not resolve the issue.
The only workaround that consistently works is to disable File and Printer Sharing (Samba) protection, but this doesn’t seem like a proper solution.
This behavior has been observed on 2 different Norton installations on my 2 different Windows systems.
Is there anything else I can do to resolve this issue?
If not, is it safe to keep File and Printer Sharing (Samba) protection disabled? I am not sure how important it is. I am just casual user.
