Wifi Network Compromised messages

Hi

Have been receiving Compromised Network Message on my android phones since morning. I saw the thread on this topic that is now closed. Was Norton able to provide a solution? Logging onto the router only shows known clients.

The WiFi network compromised issue has been resolved. This thread has been locked from posting new comments.

So are you saying that Norton sent out a message to all its customers notifying them of this problem and informing them of the fix?

I checked my emails from the past few months. I did not received any such  emails. Judging from the related forums, it sounds a lot of people who paid good money for the service did not get a memo informing them of this problem.

This should be standard practice of issuing proactive reports to all customers on regular basis informing them of all known bugs. Otherwise, it looks like you're trying to hide the problem whether intentional or not.

You are absolutely right: My credit card was charged $29.9 today for this wifi thing, Something is going on that ring a bell here! A Bug? a Bug able to collect money?..and yearly??!!!

There is no way that receiving the compromised message is going to sign you up for the Norton Wifi Privacy, NWP, product. Just tapping on the message suggesting NWP will not download the product. The only way you could be charged anything is if you downloaded and ran the NWP product. If you did this accidentally, you can contact Norton Support and request a refund.   www.norton.com/contactcs

But it looks like Norton knew about for a few months and did not do anything to inform its customers (at least not to my knowledge). Was Norton trying to sweep this under the rug? That is irresponsible and unacceptable business practice!

Not so. That older problem was fixed at that time. This current issue is different as noted in this post and the following reply by Norton employee Lucky13.

I work in for tech company that provides IT/cyber security to corporate customers. I understand bugs do happen but we inform our customers so that they can proactively take action to secure their networks. I know my Android phone and internet connection is secure. I have 3rd party VPN and malware protection on my Android phone on top of NMS. I recently changed my SSID and wifi passwords on my router. I never received any of those "network compromised" messages on my laptop and other devices.

I just upgraded to NMS v4.1.0.4070 on my Android phone. So far so good. The false positives appear to be gone for now. But I'll watch for it the next few days. Hopefully they will not come back.

By the way, I just turned off my auto-renewal for my subscription. I hope in the future Norton will be much more proactive in communicating problems, issues, bugs, etc.to its customers in the near future. Otherwise, I'm switching to another security product/service.

I don’t think this was a scam by Norton I think it’s a genuine bug, however the way they have behaved lately by pushing and prompting people to buy more products it is hardly unexpected that people begin to question them.
They really need to start testing updates properly before releasing them to paying customers too, How many people couldn’t log in to their vaults over the identity safe update?
and when they finally did they found out you couldn’t stay logged in.

It’s no wonder people are losing faith, I just wonder how many people have experienced these bugs and never ever found these forums.
It’s not good enough!

Personally, I believe these are scams by Norton to sell more Norton products like mobile wifi security, The pdf I've uploaded shows two phones, mine and my wife's.  My phone says the network is secure, hers says its compromised. The scans were run at the same time.  This is the kind of bs that Norton is starting to pull. I was going to wait till my subscription ran out to switch to something else I may do it sooner.

I realize this is a very long thread. If you had the time to go through the whole thing, you would have seen a post from employee Lucky13 at 3 am EST.  https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7870981#comment-7870981

This is a daytime employee, so they were pulling an all nighter to get the fix out.  Not something done if this were a marketing scam.

There has been an update to the mobile app update your app, swipe down to refresh the scan and it will fix it.

Lastly, still no apology from Norton.

This is probably as close as you will get.   https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7871181#comment-7871181

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. Build number 4.1.0.4063 has been released that fixes the issue where Norton Mobile Security reports the WiFi network is compromised. Please visit Norton Mobile Security on Google Play(link is external) to download the latest build.

As for if you still see the warning after updating the app, tap on the warning and swipe down to rescan your device. That will clear the warning.

I agree with you.  There is no explanation available for the cause ("trigger") for the alert, yet a potential solution is offered through the purchase of a product.  Norton has been relentless in popups, even on the desktop version, ever since they purchased lifelock.  I had to disallow notifications from Norton to stop the constant popups in Windows.  Now, I took the extreme measure of removing Norton mobile from my phone to stop these constant push alerts that appear totally erroneous.  There have been some good alerts/recommendations, such as updating your routers firmware to prevent recent hacks that allow someone to gain access.  Also, make sure that remote login is turned off, which should be the default in the configuration settings, as well as changing the default login/password info.  I have been a user of Norton products since Norton Utilities in the early 80's, but am very unsatisfied with recent changes.

I have started receiving this warning since 2 days ago. I pretty sure I am not hacker attempted with my home router. Both 2.4G and 5G had this warning. There should be something Norton made changed recently. So if this issue persists, I will uninstall.

Want more proof that it was all a scare tactic, just this morning I got a pop-up notification from Norton this morning that said “Tax Season is open season for ID thieves.” I’d include a picture, but Norton is smarter than letting customer post pictures to support their complaints.
It’s also more proof that Norton could have done more to alert its customers that there was an issue with their mobile security app.
Lastly, still no apology from Norton.

This issue was fixed by an update to NMS on March 28. See the announcement here.  https://community.norton.com/en/forums/nms-wifi-security-network-compromised-alert

After downloading the new version from Google Play Store, tap on the warning message and swipe down to rescan your network.

I’m pretty sure that it’s the Norton Security app that needs updating to fix the problem, not your phone.

I have an HTC One M9  and the security patch level dated 1 Oct 2016 and Android version 6.

When I emailed HTC that didn't know what KRACK is??!!  So not excepting an update anytime soon.
