Hi paulsauve46,
Have you had any success with this issue? It is most annoying! I have the same issue with my 5 Win11 Pro peer to peer network, one of which is acting as a file server. The only way I can get around it is to reboot my server and since I have bitlocker password protected drives, increases the frustration. In a former version of Norton 360 there was a way to trust local network devices, but this latest recreation doesn’t allow this that I can find. I’ve already added the IP addresses to the screen that promises “Add exclusions for IP addresses . . . that you don’t want us to block.” but that had NO EFFECT.

Everyone!! Not taking things lightly with this recommendation. My recommendation is to revert back to version 22.24.8.36 and doing so disable automatic updates as soon as the clean install is done. You can keep your definitions updated with the Intelligent Updater as I am doing. I had 9 machines on version 24.xx, things go so messed up that even my account began showing installed Norton under serial numbers that I didn’t have and without a subscription for that serial number. Being labeled as a “trial subscription” I never initiated. More over, my device installs were incorrectly labeled under Norton Security Ultra ( this was my correct version ), some were Norton 360 Ultra and others were under Norton 360 Deluxe and Norton Security. Going back to the previous version my devices are now correct as is my account. I am now eagerly awaiting version 24.xx to become ready for prime time, enough with the frustration, workarounds that don’t work. Just my dime and suggestion for everyone who are looking for an alternative.

Old Norton installer download:

Intelligent Updater link:

Until they figure out that Exclusions is not working, this is what I had to do. Trouble is, Norton keeps turning it back on - I think after each reboot.

Thank you for your response. I have implemented the change you suggested and will notify you here if anything odd happens. Agree fully with your intelligence comment.

@jebcpa
I managed to get all my PC’s connected (file sharing). BUT, I had a very bad time with my router connected NAS drive. In fact, I had to go the main Western Digital site & create a new user. I’m pretty sure this will be my final iteration of Norton 360 for me. It’s getting a bit too much for this retired IT professional who has been using PCs since the Atari first showed up.

Hi SoulAsylum,
I’ve blocked live update. The norton I’ve installed via your link 22.23.10.10 When I use your link for Security Center Download Detail. (Using Win 11 64bit). I downloaded the * Norton Security (up to version 22.6) “IU Initialization failed” Is this due to Win11 vs Win10?

I finally decided to disable autoprotect and bought McAfee AntiVirus. I hope this situation gets resolved within 1 year.

There were/are two different versions, 32bit and 64bit. Your failure most likely was due to downloading the 32bit version vice the 64bit. Its easy to miss that at the top of the download area.
I apologize for the tardy reply as well. Errands took priority today. Good luck with McAfee, it too will spam you with offers and sell-ups.

No, I got the right one. I couldn’t find a Win11version so, I just gave up. Understood with McAfee. I’ve been with Norton since the mid 1980s and I don’t need to deal with my other workstations since they only communicate with my server and it’s the server that is the problem. I will keep this line open in the hope that there will be a definite fix sometime soon. Thanks for your help.

The website does specify 32 bit or 64 bit definitions for Windows 11. I am getting my Windows 11 Intelligent updates there for all my W11 machine presently without any issues.

Am I reading my Norton version wrong? My machine says 22.24.2.6. The options that I see for Norton 360 show 22.7 22.8, and 22.9 22.10. and then Norton security “up to 22.6” which is the one I downloaded. And I don’t see Windows 11 anywhere on the link you provided. I would really like to get rid of McAfee.

That is a old version remove you antivirus and go to you account and download it from there and you got the news version ore download it through
Live update but that seam not to work

Thank you for your input. The first and second posts on this thread explains that the new Norton 360 is blocking my workstations from accessing my server and using an older version seems to be the only way I can get around this. Tax season 2025 is coming and I can’t be jumping through hoops.

download it on a other pc and copy it from usb does that work ore use onedrive google drive ect but live updates does works it just dont download the new version so atleast you are protectet

@jebcpa The file I’ve been downloading is on the screenshot below. I’ve had no trouble updating the virus defs. Note that the file you want is "Norton 360 (version 22.9, 22.10 and later) " I don’t know for sure if it will work for you since all my computers are still running W10 Pro but it’s at the link posted by @SoulAsylum

Thanks Puzzler. I use that exact file to update my 22.24.8.36 installs on Windows 10 AND 11.

Thank you all for your instruction and putting up with someone who knows enough about these matters to be dangerous. It seems to have worked. Last question for now, Will Intelligent Updater update daily automatically or do I have to manually download?

@jebcpa You have to manually download the file. I think they post just one new def file daily.
And, by the way, most of us are finding our way in the dark so don’t feel bad about feeling lost. The community forum is here to help each other as best we can.
The reason we’re all flailing about is because Norton pushed v24 out before it was ready AND they didn’t do what any responsible company would do-----which is to provide a comprehensive “What’s New with Version 24” page on their website.
