Android 11 or earlier no longer supported

I deleted Norton 360 deluxe from my mobile to temporarily use that subscription on another device, which is now no longer required. On attempting to reload 360 back onto my mobile, Google play store wouldn’t allow the install saying ‘this App is no longer compatible with your device’. Norton live chat advised they now only support Android version 12 onwards. So even though 360 still works with the earlier versions, you can’t upload the App. Brilliant! Anyone know of a workaround? Alternatively heads up to other users - don’t delete 360 from devices with earlier android versions if you want to reuse them again.

Thanks. The information I was given while on Norton customer support live chat earlier this afternoon was that 360 is now only supported for Android 12 on. The operator specifically said Android 9, 10 & 11 aren’t supported. My mobile has Android 9. My tablet also has version 9 but 360 still works on that. I tried using the add devices link and also direct search on Google play. Neither route will give an option to install the app., without which you can’t use 360.

Hello @Brian_H2

Norton Chat support agent: just now…agrees…Norton 360 is not compatible with 10.0

I tried questioning why Norton documentation states Android 10.0 or later…but, was transferred to another agent…who then wants to transfer me

Thanks for posting needed information.

Edit: see below

Good for you to question them. All of their documentation and ‘add new device instructions’ also need to make it clear that Google Play wont allow App installation for earlier Android versions. If there was such a thing as a customer service email address / feedback, I would be writing to them.

Thanks again for posting needed information.

Now, support states Android 9 or later.
And as always…agent wants remote access.

Now, support states Android 10 or later.
And agent wants remote access.

Remote access - which no one in their right mind will allow! If they are so sure it works with Android 9 on then they need to get Google play to make the App upload available. I have sent my feedback in thanks.

Hello @Brian_H2
No, not Android 9. Android 9 was retracted. 10 or later is current answer.
10 or later agrees with Norton doc.

Why you were told 12 or later is head scratch.

Maybe, requirement is 12 or later…then Norton doc and this last agent are wrong.

I’ll say Android 9 is not supported.
Norton doc says 10 or later.
last agent (after three transfers) says 10 or later

We were both told 12 earlier. If their own support staff are giving out different answers who knows what to believe? I have 9 anyway. The irony is that it still works with 9. You just can’t up load the App to be able to use it. Norton needs to give customers sufficient advance notice of such changes. If they had I wouldn’t have deleted it. Now I’ll just upload one of the free virus checkers to the mobile until I replace it. Thanks for your input.

Hello again @Brian_H2
I was transferred too many times to remember what I was told.
You know first hand 9 is not supported for new/re installs.
Maybe, Norton doc means (without actual words) by 10 or later…that 9 is not supported for new/re installs.

With all the confusion with Support and Google Play Store, I have escalated this thread to get the final answer.

It could be that the Android support is going the way of the iOS. iOS only supports the current and previous 2 major iOS versions.

Thank you Peter. Whatever they decide, it seems wrong to make such changes mid subscription, without notifying existing customers. It was fine to upload when I took out the annual subscription, as this was one of the three devices I originally uploaded 360 to. It was only after making a temporary switch from my mobile, to another device, that I discovered I could no longer upload the App to switch back again.

I agree that there should be some kind of in app notification when the system requirements are going to change this way. Might be a good thing to post in the Product Suggestions forum board.

Have done so Peter. I noticed a few older posts suggesting that this has happened before with older Android versions.

Yes it has happened in the past where the system requirements get updated that made older devices incompatible. But those usually only jumped 2 Android versions. In the current case it should have moved from Android 8 to 10, which is what the documentation seems to have said. But now being told it is Android 12 just a few weeks later seems either a misinformation given to the support techs, or the Google Play store was given the wrong information.

Hopefully my escalation of this thread brings some clarity.

Thank you for your help Peter. There certainly seems to be confusion in the ranks. Both I and the other Guru who responded had been told that only V12 Android onward were supported. In reply to my product support suggestion to notify users of planned changes Norton advised that I should upgrade my Android to V10. No response to my main point, i.e. to keep customers informed!

I have heard from my escalation and it is confirmed that Android 10 is now the minimum OS requirement. The appropriate teams are being notified to clarify what support is reporting.

Hi is it possible to get a recent version of Android for my tablet so that I can install Norton 360 on it? thanks.
