Issue abstract: Bug in Norton notifications are saying “Undefined” and will not clear.
Detailed description: When ever I get a blue dot on my system tray icon letting me know there is a notification for example when a scheduled scan is done and I open Norton to read the results in the InBox I see there is a message but it says “Undefined”. When I click “Got It” it does nothing and it will not clear from the “InBox” and the “Blue Dot” on my system tray icon will not clear as well and when I hover over it it keeps showing I have a new message. The only way to clear the blue dot and the Undefined notification is to either restart my computer or shut down then start. I have uninstalled Norton and reinstalled Norton and it does no good as the same thing happens. Not only does this on my desktop computer but also on my wife’s laptop computer.
Product & version number: Norton 360 Deluxe 1.0.80
Program Version: 24.11.9615 (build 24.11.9615.889)
OS details: Edition Windows 10 Home Version 22H2 OS build 19045.5131
for both HP Omen Desktop and HP Envy Laptop
What is the error message you are seeing? Notifications are saying “Undefined” and will not clear.
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
J’ai rencontré le même problème hier.
En ce qui me concerne, le problème a été résolu ce matin, lorsque j’ai redémarré mon PC. Il semblerait que la notification concernait l’affichage du “rapport de sécurité”.
It started three days back for me too. Rebooting clears it but it’s only a temporary fix as it comes back. It’s happening on all our computers and it’s annoying.
Je confirme qu’en ce qui me concerne, le problème est revenu il y a quelques minutes. En effet, le redémarrage n’est qu’une solution temporaire.
Espérons que le problème sera vite résolu.
Just ran a Smart Scan and the problem with notifications is still there. Would someone from Norton address this issue and have the Devs look into this problem. If we get an important notification that a user should know about concerning our computer’s protection will it also be undefined and we will not be able to read the notification like it is now? This is a problem and users pay good money for Norton and a patch needs to be sent out. I have now removed any scheduled scans I had set-up and set them to run manually and I will open Norton and run them myself so I will not get anymore useless “Undefined” notifications that I cannot read and clear.
Same-in fact, it tells me I have two message on the Norton icon. I open, ‘undefined got it’, click it and not removing-as many others have already said.
My Inbox now says that I have 3 messages but I just have two of the “undefined” entries instead of the one yesterday. No way to clear them as “Got it” doesn’t do anything.
24.11.9615 (build 24.11.9615.889)
I just restarted Win10 for another issue, and now I no longer have the 2 “undefined” Inbox entries. There was one other notification that cleared and I noticed that the Norton build number changed to
24.11.9615 (build 24.11.9615.891)
Perhaps the problem is fixed or will reappear after the next scan.
My Norton 360 Deluxe was updated to 24.11.9615 (build 24.11.9615.891) earlier so I restarted my computer and then did a smart scan thinking it may be a fix but I thought wrong. I got the blue dot and the “You have a new notification” but the annoying problem still persists as described in the post. The “Got It” does nothing and the Blue Dot remains and you have to restart your computer to clear the dot and Norton notifications. Nothing has changed. I am wondering how many other notifications we are missing that are important because of this BUG. We are waiting for Norton to make some sort of comment as to what is going on with these notifications and when they will be fixed.
As others have noted I am seeing the same problem as well. It started on Tues (12/3) for my Windows machine. Additionally, tech support is unaware of the problem or a fix.
I should mention a re-install of Norton does not correct the issue. Once a full scan is run the inbox “undefined” notification re-appears with no way to clear it, as someone noted the only way is with a re-boot. Unfortunately that only works until the next scan.
There is an obvious bug, let’s hope Norton addresses this soon with a fix.
I’ve been having the “undefined”- got it issue for a couple of days, but also having problem with norton not letting my pc sleep after scans are complete, and i’ve found it still awake in the morning waiting for my response, ok i’ve seen you, and i’ve got to put it to sleep…Can’t find an option anywhere anymore in nortons asking me about after scans. Also have warning restrixcting traffic on network as i appear to be public… want me to change to private??? should just be on settings from before
oh one more really frustrating thing norton seems to mucked with, and wondering if this has to do with the public/private thing mentioned before, is that my pc will no longer send document via wi-fi to my printer, but i can scan into my printer and it goes to my pc?? what the…
Same here! This new Norton interface is a cluttered mess. Another annoyance is when it pops up to let you know it’s done a scheduled scan when you close the popup it still adds the scan to Control Panel Inbox which you have to get rid of.
And I’m also very annoyed with constant attempts to get us to “upgrade” with additional features that will cost $$.
Yep, same problem. Let’s face it, Norton has evolved into a pretty useless piece of Bloatware chewing up valuable system resources for no real purpose.
Back in the day, when viruses arrived attached to emails, it did a pretty good job. These days its debatable whether you even need it as Windows, Google and, most of all, common sense do a good job at protecting ones system.
