Firewall issues with Facebook

Hello

There may be logs, but a Norton Employer would have to give directions on how to gather the logs and how to upload to Norton.

Thanks.

SendOfJive:

The point is to figure out what Norton is interfering with that causes a loss of some Facebook functionality.

This is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish here and so far this is what we have learned. You are the first person in this thread to mention another website issue besides facebook losing functionality. We can deduct that since facebook loads, but only partially, that obviously it is not a main URL blacklist issue, no logs are generated from those that have checked in the thread, in firewall history, there are no prompts from the webfilter, adding a ad blocker for one user in this thread cleared up the issue for them. I am running two machines on this network set up the same, with NS and using Google Chrome and am not experiencing this issue with any websites including Facebook.

From what I gather here, it is looking much like either a 3rd party site plugin or traffic more then likely Norton is hammering, why it is not being logged in any shape or form, and what exactly it is blocking are both good questions at this point.

@SendOfJive can you show me this website please?

It is not just a Facebook issue.  I have encountered a related issue on another website as well.  I think it may be an issue with a component of some websites in general, rather than something specific to Facebook.  The point is to figure out what Norton is interfering with that causes a loss of some Facebook functionality.

I deleted my Norton history, then i did go to facebook and norton is blocking my facebook on every web browser for me.

The firewall history does not show anything, facebook only works if i disable the Norton firewall.

I dont have a router so the problem is Norton.

Running windows 10 PRO.

Can you check the rest of History, trying to help narrow this down. As far as the fault of the issue, I would more then likely blame Facebook before Norton,  as not one user in this thread has mentioned any other sites they have this issue with, it is more then likely 3rd party traffic from facebook being blocked by Norton. It is why I recommended the ad blocker above. I am not having this issue with facebook, and have Norton Security on two machines.

If Norton is the only firewall that is having issues with Facebook than it is hard to blame Facebook for the problem.  Unfortunately, the ad blocker you mentioned, which I tried, has no effect on the problem.

Lets narrow this down shall we?  Open Norton Security, click the "security" tab, now click "History" in History, next to "Show" is a search box with a drop down arrow that should say "Recent History" click the drop down arrow next to this and down through the list chose "Firewall Activities" if Norton is blocking something it will be in this list of activities. It would be helpful to know exactly what it states it is blocking and where. If any of you can provide me the details, we can go from there on how to address this.

Please follow these steps I listed above, also please look in "Social Protection" in the History drop down.

"Fixes"  what people are describing, such as resetting network adapters, are not really fixes. Disabling the firewall and turning it back on again will accomplish the same thing in which it is only fixed for a short while and than the issue starts again.

Same problem. I have Windows 10. Facebook is not loading 4 out 5 times on opera, firefox or Internet explorer. Tried installing the facebook App, it seems to load for a while, but then it just tells me there is no internet connection. Turning of the firewall does solve the problem, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a anti-virus program.

Does anyone have a solution to solving this issue since I'm not keen on turning off the firewall every time I want to get on FB?

Try running Windows Network Diagnostics by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray and selecting "Troubleshoot problems."  If it does not find a problem, select the "I'm having a different problem" option and then "Choose a specific network adapter."  Select the adapter you are using for the connection and the troubleshooter should reset it.  When this is finished, refresh the browser page.  In my case, it looks like it could be an issue with my wifi adapter periodically (possibly still related to Norton), and running the diagnostics and letting it reset the adapter fixes this for me.

Same issue here. I was at a loss to find out what was preventing the Facebook page from loading. I will get the first several posts on Facebook and than it hangs on loading. Disabling the firewall fixes it. I am not comfortable not having a firewall. If I can't fix, unfortunately I will be forced to uninstall Norton and use another product. This will be a last resort because I really like the program. I am not, however, going to permanently put up with this frustrating issue.  Tried Ublock and it does not make any difference.

Personally, I do not have this issue, and I fully believe it is because I'm running the Ad Blocker I mentioned above.

Yes having the same issue and I reported it a month ago and a rep from Norton picked it up from this thread, sent logs etc and they say they are looking at it, but has been a month and no answers and I have checked in on it. About to uninstall norton and switch products, because of lack of solution by norton, which I don't want to do as like the product , but need a solution

I've been having issues with Facebook on my main desktop for a few weeks where it just stalls for several minutes showing only 2 or 3 posts.  When I click on any of the menu items it just spins and eventually stops.  I've recently discovered after playing around that if I turn off Norton Smart Firewall Facebook runs just fine.

Does anyone have a solution to solving this issue since I'm not keen on turning off the firewall every time I want to get on FB?  FB works on all other devices and second computer that isn't running Norton.  I also run Google Chrome as my browser...

I appreciate any suggestions

Richard

Thanks for the response. I have disabled norton extensions and all others as well and still had the issues. Will try the ublock and see if have any success. Thanks.

Your welcome.

With Ublock, I should mention for those just trying it, make sure after installing it to go into Google Chrome settings, More tools, Extensions, scroll down to Ublock, click Options, then 3rd Party Filters tab, click "Update" this will update the database, and after this will automatically update, unless you go long periods of days without turning on your system in which case you may want to check it every once in awhile to make sure the filters are up to date.

I would just like to say a huge thank you to Illumination - I followed the suggestions/settings you made and I now have Facebook up and going again. It has been nearly a week of frustration of trying anything and everything possible in multiple browsers to finally see your post and get things going.

You are more then welcome, glad it helped you :)

Steelhand:

Hey illumination, can you clarify what solved the problem for you while using Chrome?

Was it just using UBlock?

Thanks

I was not having a problem like the rest of you, so I shared my set up for Chrome. From reading above, this issue started here recently, and one could deduct from the Firewall blocking it, and that it is not effecting other sites for anyone, that it is back ground traffic causing the issue. More then likely "as I have not tested this myself" the Ad Blocker "Ublock" is what is stopping that, although one could try just disabling Norton Extensions and see before placing the adblocker on.

I am not a fan of the toolbar or safe search being powered by Ask, so I do not ever have the extensions enabled.

I would like to add for those of you considering just turning off the firewall to surf facebook, that this, is not a good idea in any way, shape or form.
