i am pretty fed up with NORTON. FOR SOME REASON MY NORTON INTERFACE WINDOW DIDNT LOOK RIGHT. it didnt have certain icons on it. it kept saying i needed to upgrade it or update it. that was hard to tell as well. then where the button was to update it wouldnt work. then i started getting upgrades to what i already had...and unless i used them my interface window didnt work. with all the new downloads and upgrades...my computer works worse than it ever did...i want to get rid of those new upgrades...they are awful. im so unhappy now i am not going to renew my subscription with you. you keep on bugging me about renewing it and it feels like you caused my interface window not to work or have what it should on it to make it work...i dont like having something controling my computer when i want to be in control and the antivirus in the back ground...you have to do something to stop this...if i cancel my upgrades i want a refund...i just did it two days ago...and i hardly can use my computer so that it works..
I can't speak for the OP Dodge125, but I think the point they were trying to make is that Norton customers are now forced to provide Norton with their credit card number and detailed personal contact information each time they try to renew their annual subscription, even if they purchase a legitimate product key from an authorized reseller and don't want to opt for automatic renewal. The fact that Kaspersky offers both automatic renewal and manual renewal is a moot point unless they also force users to provide this type of confidential billing information year after year if a customer has chosen manual renewal.
Why does Norton need to collect my credit card information every year when I renew my subscription if I haven't opted for automatic renewal or purchased my product key from their online store? Why should I be forced to provide personal contact information like my home address every year when I renew my subscription when Norton abuses that information by mailing advertising and renewal notices to customer homes (see ProTruckDriver's thread STOP Sending Me Renewal Notices By US Mail Service!!! - constantly spamming users with "important" electronic messages and renewal notices that can't be disabled in the notification settings of their Norton Account apparently wasn't enough for the Marketing department). And why does Norton keep justifying this data collection by telling me that I can log into my Norton Account at https://my.norton.com/extspa/account/subscriptions and delete that billing information after I've manually renewed?
In past years I could purchase Norton from my local Staples Canada or Best Buy store (i.e, a retail box with the product key written on a cardboard insert) the week after Christmas for $19.99 CAD (~ $15 USD), go to Help | Account Information | Enter Product Key the day before my annual subscription expired and simply enter the product key there to manually renew. Done and dusted - no fuss, no forced auto-renewal or requirement to provide any billing information. I agree that purchasing activation keys for software from online sites like eBay can be risky and that there is no obligation on Norton's part to provide refunds to anyone who purchases a fraudulent key from a scammer (caveat emptor), but every Norton product key has an associated serial number and SKU numbers so there must be a better way for Norton to control activation of product keys that doesn't require customers to hand over their credit card number before they manually renew their subscription with a pre-purchased product key.
I purchased a cheap Norton Security product key for my Vista SP2 machine last year since it's one of the few AV companies that still supports older Win XP and Vista OSs (kudos to Norton for that) but Norton has been removed from my Win 10 machine, and for the first time in over a decade I won't be renewing my Norton subscription when it expires. I made this decision in part because of the continual decline in Norton's customer service and refusal to publicly acknowledge known bugs until after fix is released (Hot Issues and Fixes hasn't been updated since Sept 2018), but primarily because of this ridiculous business practice that forces customers who already purchased a legitimate product key from an authorized retailer to re-submit confidential billing information to Norton before they can manually renew their subscription.
Thanks
Hello. I just came from a Kaspersky product. Just in the last few days I have switched to Norton. Let me tell you this, 'Good luck with Kaspersky' if you need support. Once they find out you bought the product from EBAY, you're out the door. No kidding. They do NOT support Kaspersky products bought from there. You'll get zippo for help. Just a word of wisdom here. And when I used to have Norton prior to now and before Kaspersky, I had no trouble at all going into my account and disabling auto-renewal. No prob at all. Done...I do this for all products I obtain that use auto-renewal, and so its become automatic for me to do this manually. I can't stand auto-renewals. So I just wanted to put things into perspective a little more is all :)
Thanks. Happy you've had positive ebay experience. I'm wary of ebay. Just me. Thanks
btw ~ I'm pro Kaspersky.
@bjm...the link you posted is to a ebay seller that has sold 1 item. Who in there right mind would buy from a one sell seller? and who would buy software costing $3. I completely understand you are a Norton Fighter and want to receive as many kudo's as you can get but I think in the long haul people will realize what's going on with Norton and decide this is not what they want and will go some where else.
A cp from another customer..... If it's becoming the norm then I think sensible customers will "downgrade" to Defender which as long as you don't spend your life on dodgy websites (I don't) should be fine. It's a very strange marketing strategy to p off your customers with endless popups, invitations to upgrade for free, etc, and then take payment details they don't need and the customer doesn't want to supply (which as I keep saying is against GDPR.).... so my phone is now Kaspersky'd.

@bjm....your looking for a barrel of monkeys that don't exist....the Kaspersky seller on ebay has sold over 2000 activation codes and has a 100% feedback. Yes I had Kaspersky verify the code and also verified the reseller was legit and I did get 365 days when it activated.
Dodge125:Not true...I just purchased a Kaspersky activation code for 5 pcs from a ebay reseller, installed it on my other pc and didn't have to enter financials and no auto renewal requirement. Activated instantly.
Um, did you register activation code from ebay to your Kaspersky user account.
Um, did Kaspersky Support verify #days and #devices on your Kaspersky activation code from ebay?
Yes, Norton needs renew automatically or renew manually option.
Yes, Norton may not satisfy all users, all the time.
When Norton reconsiders it's current business practice maybe I'll reconsider but for now I'll stay with Kaspersky. To Bad Norton decided on this...good day everyone!

I purchased the Internet Security not the Security Cloud, and the pic you show will at least let you uncheck the renewal button and no financial info needed. I'm telling you, I just installed it and there is no button for auto renewal. I can understand your bias as a Norton Fighter but you are giving false information. Very tacky
