Popup says "Connected to a new network"

Note: Please do not post Personally Identifiable Information like email address, personal phone number, physical home address, product key etc.

Issue abstract: Every time I login, I get a popup telling me I’m connected to a new network. But I’m on the same private network, connected by Ethernet only (not WiFi).

Detailed description: As I said in the Abstract, I get this popup every time I login to Windows 11. I’m on a private LAN and connected only using Ethernet. What’s more, I’m using ExpressVPN for added security (I stopped using Norton’s VPN because, when using it internationally, it just turned itself off randomly, so I couldn’t depend on being protected).

Product & version number: Norton 360 for Windows - the latest version that pops up information telling me I have thousands of performance issues and that I have to buy Norton products I already have to correct them.

OS details: Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26.100.2605)

What is the error message you are seeing? Read the above Abstract.

de arbejder allerede på sagen så tag det roligt det er fix i 24.13

I am getting exactly the same issue. Single standard PC connected by Ethernet cable to Router. Started happening a couple of weeks ago, but unlike [Grandpa_of_Loba] mine only pops up occasionally.

Det er samme fejl de arbejder på så forvent at de har fix hele vpn i næste patch 24.13 du er bare heldig ikke at have det altid eller også smider de en miner eller hotfix ud når de har fundet fejlen

I posted on this issue on another thread: Repeat-------Be vigilant about checking your settings on v24

All of my computers are connected via ethernet also. I posted a screenshot from one of my computers of the networks N360 created at the link above. No one knows what triggers N360 to connect to a new network. The speculation is that it “sees” a “new” network connection after a shut down or restart but it’s inconsistent.

As I noted in that thread, It’s a good idea to check that N360 retains the Public or Private setting you designated. In a couple of instances, it connected to a Private network even though I have it’s set to use Public and that’s a potential security risk. I don’t know if Norton has fixed this problem.

I got pop up alerts on network status once or twice but I no longer do. The alerts may have gone away by disabling informational notifications but I don’t know that for certain.

Thanks for the messages and Puzzler for sharing your notes from another thread. It looks from other posts that there could be a resolution on the way with the next software update.

Godt

@markfranklin
Hope springs eternal. But the reality is Norton released a “beta” version and is using its customers as guinea pigs. All products come with bugs but the sheer number of problems in Version 24 is inexcusable, particularly for a product that is supposed to protect your system. Also, both customer and product supports are lacking considering they released a completely retooled product.

Thanks again and interesting stuff. I shall stay waiting for fixes!!

I’ve been having the same problem. Not positive, but seemed to occur after a Major Microsoft Windows 11 update a couple months ago.

What Troubleshooting have you tried?
What does Norton support say?

Why can’t Norton publish the triggers for this popup so that we can fix the problem. Or don’t they know how it works?

How do you troubleshoot if the triggers for the popup are not known. How do you fix it if there is no documentation that identifies specifically what can cause it?

Norton LiveUpdate + Restart (not Shut down) machine

If your Norton is not working as expected and you’ve tried Troubleshooting → Reset to Default &or Repair Norton & clean re-install Norton 360…then…reach out to Norton support.
Note: Reset to Default resets Cloud Backup

Download and run the Norton 360 Remover tool for Windows here

Maybe, try Troubleshooting → Record a performance issue &or Enable/Send debug logs
