@bjm Thanks for validation.

Hi all,
I just started a new thread on this before I came across all of your posts on this problem. Apologies for the duplication.
Thanks @SoulAsylum for contacting Norton. Keeping fingers crossed that this will be resolved soon. If not I guess Iâll reinstall V24 until I find an alternative security app. Iâve been looking at both Bitdefender and ESET.but Microsoft Defender did pretty well according to the most recent detection results. Note: This is on W10 OS but assume the results will be the same, if not better, on W11.Test antivirus software for Windows 10 - December 2024 | AV-TEST
@SoulAsylum @Puzzler @peterweb can you guys, if not too much trouble, check the links again? I just went to update my definitions and all links are dead, with another page not loading at all. I havenât updated in a few days, though Iâd better, but every link I just tried were dead links. Are you guys having any issues with them? Thanks oodles in advance!
Ah, glad I found this page/post from you, I just tagged you and 2 others about dead links and asking if you knew anything about it. Rut Ro, what do we do now? Thoughts? And as always @SoulAsylum, HUGE gratitude hon.
I did the same thing @Puzzler, didnât realize I was duplicating it until I found these updates. Personally I think Nortonâs behind the dead links and other pages - I think theyâre intentionally trying to force us to use V24. So not happy. Iâve despised McAfee for decades, always sluggish and boggled me down - Norton was tried and true and worked like a charm. I refuse to put V24 back on my laptop, it was literally frying my CPU, memory, laptop, battery, fan and nearly cost me my laptop, hate McAfee, donât like MS, despise them more than Iâm starting to despise Norton for what theyâve done - theyâve messed up millions of peopleâs calendars, 4 of them simultaneously if you include your phone syncing with them - countless people lost mega amounts of events and data, me included - I use windows, but their Defender doesnât offer the VPN and seamless full coverage and user control as Norton does/did prior to V24, and donât know much about the otherâs listed, though thankful to see a choice list. Like MS - Norton is imploding, theyâre going to lose innumerable customers/money for this.
LOL @Puzzler weâre much alike, not only re: no to V24, but NO to windows 11. I have my windows update set to 2030 because it wants to install Win 11, which is nothing more than the status quo these days âless control first and foremost, then less customization.â Technology wise, give me back the old days where there was no required connectivity to a manufacturer to use their products, you had your own install disc that you paid for (or clipped the install file online lol), Thankfully I have a LOT of old clipped install files from back in the day or I wouldnât have my PhotoShop, Acrobat and many more no longer available without being connected to them. Iâm very over this and a lot more going wrong with technology and loss of control and amniotomy.
All: Checked again a minute ago. Links are still not present. Nothing from Norton side as of this posting. Some of you are saying youâll just reintroduce version 24.xx, of course that is a personal decision everyone has to make. If things are what they appear to be, the definitions links disappearance from where I sit is intentional for the sake of pushing users back to 24.xx. Personally I have one laptop on that version that can be clean reinstall of Windows 11 should that be necessary, using it to test for my account getting screwed up again and to test the Norton version 24 suite. My goals are two, not getting my account screwed up a third time and different versions of Norton on different machines again, as well as being able to assist better with 24.xx. We will be here to support whatever everyone does.
Edited: Checked the website on Mobile to see if that presented any difference, sadly it doesnât.

I checked the links just now and they are back! Iâm still looking at alterative programs as I refuse to go to version 24 until they fix the VPN.
Confirmed. Itâs good news but like you this doesnât end my search for an alternative.
Confidence in V24 N360 is at a low. Seems itâs still in beta mode. ExampleâNot sure what the deal was Nortonâs bankmode-toaster pop-up posted on another thread. Looks as though Norton released a half-baked feature with no info about it on its support pages. One user reported bankmode-toaster pop-ups are now gone but it alarmed users needlessly. Thatâs not good, especially for a security appâŚ
Win10 EOL is October 14, 2025. Microsoft wonât be providing any security or OS updates for Win10 after that, leaving your computer vulnerable. Not all my computers are Win11 compliant. My plan is to take those offline and install Win11 on the compliant ones but Iâm waiting until the last minute in hopes that Microsoft will push Win10 EOL date back. Not looking forward to it.
Amen!!! Right there with you but âwhen pigs flyâ comes to mind.
Microsoft is focused on AI, its integration into Edge and getting all the data from customers it can muster before the obvious happens. Recall is a massive privacy issue that will be determined in the courts here and abroad. They are also going to face the Windows 10 nightmare a second time as they did when it was offered. Dumping millions of devices that are perfectly capable of running Windows 11 into landfills isnât going to force users to run out and spend, spend on an AI/Co-pilot device. And certainly not their excessively expensive Surface devices. 2k for a Surface only for MS to stop supporting it 3-4 years down the line isnât a joke. Its a no no.
Linux runs well on most devices too. There are also A/V solutions for it now more so than ever. Broadcom Endpoint supports it.

MSFT removed TPM requirement. So your hardware should now be compatible.
You can also extend support for a year thru ESU.
@Puzzler oh lovely - so they finally found a way to force those of us who found a way around Win 11 to pay the price. Again, Iâm really (and have been for the past decade+) having a HUGE issue with the control these companies are forcing on us as we pay for them. When we went to Win 7 and 8, especially 8, everyone hated it - NT was the best, gone are those days, but it only took a few hours or less to get Win 8 to look and work like the older versions. We still had control. Then they pushed out 10 and there wasnât that much of a difference, but still a bit of lost control and preferences, 11? Win 11 has removed all control and preferences - I donât like being controlled by my software or OSâs, I/we have the right to control our technology and preferences. Iâm getting so fed up. I tried MAC a few times, but after using Windows for 30+ years now, my brain just canât seem to grasp it comfortably. Itâs the same for me when trying to use an Android vs. an iPhone, canât work an Android for my life, itâs illogical to me. Iâm super proficient on Windows, MACs seem like aliens to me, slows me down too much and it doesnât feel comfortable or logical to me, but from what Iâve been hearing for years, you donât have to deal with the constant updates and nonsense we deal with from MS. Then again, Apple is starting to get super bad too in other areas online, so just an assumption⌠theyâre likely starting to mess with MAC OS as well. I know theyâre totally messing up my iPhone backups - even though theyâre not encrypted (not set to be), canât open them locally like we used to be able to, and Iâm not a fan of online backups at all. I have and keep buying more and more portable hard-drives to back up to, which is getting pricey!
Itâs probably not cool using this forum to get off subject like this - people are coming to these threads for help, the same way we all did, some came to share (bless you all who did). I donât know what to do about Norton or the thought of using a different product. I know itâs not cool not being able to update definitions and Iâm not putting V24 back on my laptop to fry it. And thanks to you! (giggling)⌠I now know MS is going to do the same thing with Win 10. Iâm going to go live in a cave off grid!
Agree 100%. I uninstalled Copilot when it came bundled with one of Windows monthly OS/security updates last year. Personally I would never buy a Copilot+ PC. Itâs impossible to uninstall Edge but I donât use it as a browser.
I have at least one that meets W11 specs so things will be okay. Iâm considering a Mac to replace my Windows 11 noncompliant computers, not that Apple is a panacea. The fundamental problem is that all of these companies have found ways to monetize our digital/personal data.
Microsoft did âretoolâ Recall after the debacle when it first pushed this feature out last year. Do I trust it? About as far as I can throw my house.
*"Microsoft is relaunching Copilotâs âRecallâ feature on its upcoming Copilot+ PCs with security enhancements after the company âlistened to feedbackâ about the productâs initial privacy concerns.
*Recall initially drew criticism when it was unveiled in May after Microsoft illustrated that the process stores a screenshot of what a user does every few seconds and stores it in a file on the device. Recall could scroll through this userâs activity, encompassing their files, photos, emails and browsing history. Users could visit this repository to retrace their steps, similar to how they can go back through their web browser history, to help them locate previously viewed or worked-on items."
Microsoft says it has taken on board feedback about the tool as a potential âprivacy nightmareâ, as described by Dr Kris Shrishak, an adviser on AI and privacy. Having removed several contentious features, including Recall as an opt-in capability rather than enabled by default, Microsoft plans to relaunch Recall on Copillot+ PCs in November."

Thanks for the info @Arugula177 Very useful info on the one year extension for $30. Nice to have that option. Reminds me of what Microsoft did with Windows 7 EOL, but in that case they offered paid security updates only to enterprise users. Maybe theyâre learning.
As for Win 11, my CPU doesnât meet specs. Also not sure about TPM 2 not being required. Running PC Health Check still shows itâs needed. Checked MS websites for more info. Looks like I could try and force install Win 11 but it comes with significant disclaimers that either updates wonât install and/or the systems will become unstable. Would be interesting to hear from folks who installed it on a computer not up to specs.
What these companies donât take into consideration is that there are users like me who use specialized legacy apps that wonât run on the new OS and are either expensive or impossible to replace. I work with music and have digital audio workstations with virtual instruments. I can update the DAW but several of the virtual instrument companies are no longer in business and Iâm not about to shell out $$$$$ to get new and often inferior sampled instruments. Not only that, some hardware peripherals wonât work.
Sorry. Didnât mean to vent.
Thanks again!
@SoulAsylum @Puzzler @peterweb - HEY EVERYONE - Kudos yet again to SoulAsylum for not only a way around that nightmare, but for the info shared about Norton definitions not working and contacting and being in touch with Norton. Definition pages and links are up and running again!!! SoulAsylum, you are indeed immensely appreciated. Thank you for you hon!
I may pay $30 as well even if its just a year. Its honestly not that much at all and to have support for extended time is always good. Especially when I currently dont like Win 11, but felt the same for 10 originally. So weâll see.
Ahh yes. It looks like this info has been corrected. Looks like we both helped each other.
Lol, no worries on the venting. I hear you especially when dealing with things like that. Most of the time Apple products just become paper weights in this scenario.
NP and GL!
Isnât that the truth. At least with Windows PCs we often have the option of replacing the hardware, especially in desktops. Thatâs not an option in Appleâs sealed systems.
Everyone: It appears version 25 is being released. Stay on version 22.24.8.36 until we can see what its all about,
