Hi All,
I wanted to update this thread becuase I've seen this issue myself and have reproduced it on one of the 3 PCs I have running Online Family, and I wanted to reiterate Matt's message that we've got our entire team working on this issue as a priority.
We've seen a problem in our ratings lookup that might be causing a slowdown in some cases, and this is what we're actively researching right now.
In any case, I wanted to thank you guys for your input, which has helped us narrow down the problem, and let you know that we'll be contacting you absolutely as soon as we've got an update to share.
Best,
Jody
Hi, I have the exact same problems as others on this thread and have had to disable Safety Minder. I'm using Vista 64-bit and my Safety Minder versions are as below:
Safety Minder version 1.2.0.37
Online Framework version 1.2.0.51
Norton Online Datastore version 1.2.0.51
I'm interested in the resolution to this issue as well
My surfing seems to be back to normal this morning. Safety Minder is turned on and I can see the browsing history on the web activity.
Thank you to the Norton Safety Minder team. Browsing speed is back to normal again on both my PC's.

Please update me also as I have the same problem.
Thanks.
Felix.
We've posted a fix to the slow browsing problem, so surfing speeds should be back to normal. We found that a couple of ISPs had changed the format of some of our category reporting data packets, which was causing category ratings lookup errors & resulted in delays to page loads. However, Matt's team has fixed the problem.
If anyone is still seeing an impact to page load times, I'll ask someone from our team to set up a remote support session with you to see what could be going on. Just let me know.
Best,
Jody
I would like to have someone help me fix the loading time problem, please. With the Safety Monitor loaded, the pages take a long time to load and frequently time out, too. Thank you.
Hi there,
I am also having a problem with very slow surfing speeds on my son's compute when Safety Minder in on. I installed Norton 2010 last week, having previously removed AVG free. The computer runs on Windows XP and works fine if SM is switched off. Please advise.
Hi gillmarycart,
Please make sure you're on the latest Norton Safety Minder 1.2.0.39. You can find it by right clicking on the Norton Safety Minder icon in the System tray and selecting About Norton Safety Minder.
Please check my reply at your another post at
Thanks,
Katie
Hi,
If you have already confirmed that you're running the latest version of the Safety Minder (1.2.0.39 includes fixes that solved some performance problems), please feel free to contact KatieQ and set up a remote session so she can analyze what's going on on your system.
Hi,
I'm in Singapore and I have similar problem expressed by all the users' post in this forum.
However, reading through this thread, I still could not figure out the solution. Can someone help me ?
Norton Safety Minder version: 1.2.0.39
Norton Online Framework version: 1.2.0.53
Norton Online Datastore version: 1.2.0.53
Alex
Hi alexross,
I've sent you an email back. Let's setup a remote desktop access session and figure it out together.
Thanks,
Katie
Hi Katie
I have
Norton Safety minder version 1.2.2.2
Framework version 1.2.2.2
Datastore Version 1.2.2.2
OS Windows 7 64 bit
I have just started using my laptop on a clients site.
To access the internet I have to set up the following settings:
In IE ... tools ... internet options ... Lan Settings -
Check 'Use a proxy server for your LAN
address 10.23.12.110 port 8080
Check bypass proxy for local addresses
Under advanced add 10.23.12.133 localhost and any other local servers I need to the list of exceptions.
I found internet access worked but was extremely slow.
Having tried a zillion combinations of settings, including switching off NISs firewall, I found that it was by switching off Norton Safety Minder internet speeds returned to normal.
The only IP address I could access at normal speed with Norton Safety Minder on is 127.0.0.1 - my loopback adapter. I am using this to access test 'web sites' running on my laptop. If I use the IP address of my local area connection (10.23.11.225) to access my test web sites, the access is extremely slow unless I switch on Norton Safety Minder.
Because I only have this problem on my clients site when conected to thier network I will not be in a position to let you remote desktop onto my machine and investigate, but I'm hoping that you have enough information to think about what the problem might be.
Hi simonapril4,
Thanks for the detailed information. You mentioned NIS in the post. Do you also have any other security product(s) installed on the PC?
Thanks,
Katie
Why are you using a proxy server?
What I think is happening is that the proxy server is blocking our attempts to "rate" the sites you are visiting. That timeout is taking time and that is what is slowing you down.
Can you try it without setting up the proxy server?
Matt
Hi,
I'm from Singapore. I'm also having this problem of slowness when the web monitoring is switch on.
Its almost impossible to surf the internet but once I switch it off in Safety Minder the speed is back to normal.
I'm using: Norton Safety Minder version 1.2.2.2
Would appreciate if the support team can help.
Thanks.
No, NIS is the only security running on my laptop
The only way onto the internet from the internal network is via the proxy server.
When I'm not on that network access is fine.
I have sent you additional instructions via the community Private Messenger system, please look for the in the upper right hand corner of any community page.
