I have the same problem. I get the same 15 cookies found and removed each scan. The scan can be the quick or full scan, and get the same results. I open Internet Explorer and delete cookies, history, etc.  I close IE. Run the scan and it finds and removes the 15 tracking cookies. I click finish. Run the same scan without doing anything else. Same 15 are found and "removed."
I manually delete all Internet Temporary Files, Prefetch, Temp, etc. and I added all 15 to the IE block list. I have searched the registry and my computer. I cannot find the offending tracking cookies. I went online with a Norton tech who also could not find the cookies. I used Norton Eraser. No progress. Norton says my only option is to pay them $99.99. I believe this is a Norton defect (bug). I used ExterminateIt and it doesn't find any cookies. The 15 cookies are listed below. I tried to get the Norton Tech to open a defect ticket, but he would not. :(

Orphan cookie cleanup

Hello PackerFanatic

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Tracking cookies in themselves are not really a problem. They are more of a nuisance than anything else. If you delete your own cookies and temp files etc every day, then you can change the scanning for tracking cookies to ignore  or what ever the wording is in your product.

They might also be flash cookies that come from Adobe flash player. The flash player has a manager in it where you can make many settings and you can also make a setting for cookies in that program. Your browser can most like clean up cookies also and you can set your browser to accept only in session cookies.

Local Shared Objects, so-called Flash Cookies, can regenerate HTML cookies that the user has deleted, so this may be a case where LSOs are involved.  The following article tells you how to go about deleting Flash Cookies and changing your Flash Player settings to keep them from coming back.  Be sure that you uncheck the box that permits third-party content.

Tracking Cookies are not a security threat and they do not report every site you visit.  They only allow the site that set the cookie to know when you visit other sites that are affiliated.  For example, if an ad on one site sets a cookie, the advertising agency will know  when you see another of their ads at another site.  A privacy concern, perhaps, but not anything to lose sleep over.  I have previously posted instructions for handling cookies in Internet Explorer here, if you want to set your browser to keep the cookies you need (such as to log in to your bank site) while deleting all the others every time you close the browser.

Whoops, almost forgot - there is a whole lot more information on Flash Cookies in this thead:

Win XP SP3

Norton 360

IE8

FireFox

After I scan my computer, the file insight feature will list all the 3rd party tracking cookies detected and removed.  I started listing the tracking cookie url in Internet Oprions/Security/Restricted Sites.

As I continue to run scans, Norton 360 continues to list new 3rd party tracking cookies and 3rd party cookies found that are listed in the restricted sites.  The tracking cookies from the restrticted sites listed in the scan results are Bolded.

What does the bold indicate?

If these urls are listed in the restricted sites section, why does Norton 360 allow them to be downloaded to my computer???

Help.

Thanks

Hi, garfield0. Are you on Windows 10 ? If so have you restarted ? Norton requires this, to operate correctly.

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7418-shut-down-computer-windows-10-a.html

Also, we suggest Fast Start Up be disabled, as this can also cause issues.

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-10-a.html

If neither apply, you may want to try a reinstall to give you a fresh copy using the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

http://www.norton.com/nrnr

If used, please Read the Before you begin note and run Live Update after until no more are found, and then restart.

Hi garfield0,

The forum is for the product of Norton Family.  I've moved your post to the appropriate forum for better exposure.

Thanks

Katie

Tracking cookie, or simply, Cookie is...

a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in the user's web browser

Then, you can at least enable the Private Browsing mode to your web tools, FF, Chrome and/or IE:

  • Firefox: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/private-browsing/
  • Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/7005900?hl=en&rd=1
  • IE 11: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17288/windows-internet-explorer-11-use-do-not-track
  • Opera: http://help.opera.com/Mac/12.10/en/private.html

And, usually, we can only clear those temp data completely when we get the open browser(s) closed. To get that job done efficiently, you can give CCleaner a go.

Translated comment (German > English):

Hello dear forum for days I kept 10 tracking cookies on my PC Norton knows this but still it does completely clean up but they keep coming back, but Norton is not blocked!

the 2nd one:

With me in the settings is already set that tracking cookies are removed but you still come over again for Norton are these unknown and are not blocked thereby.

Bei mir ist bei den Einstellungen schon eingestellt dass Tracking Cookies entfernt werden aber sie kommen trotzdem immer wieder für Norton sind diese unbekannt und dadurch nicht blockiert werden.
