Unidentifiable Error 80047ec6 80072f8f

Bought an online Norton 360 to renew. It installed OK on my iPad and Android phone BUT won’t install on my Windows-7 PC. It dies with error msg unidentifiable Error 80047ec6 80072f8f. No matter what I try I can’t get past this error. As I can’t communicate directly with Norton Service I’m lost! What can I do?

Hello Jake. Does your Windows 7 machine have at least service pack 1 installed? That is a requirement.

SA

Hello, that is the same error code that i have as well as my windows 7 pc is also on service pack 1

Yes, my system is on service pack 1 and I always install all windows updates as they come through.

Norton’s programmers who designed & debug their systems should know quite quickly where these error codes are coming from BUT no one gets to talk to a real Customer Support function at Norton… that’s the real problem!!

Jake, the error code 80072f8f is related to Windows Update issues. Please run the following from the elevated run command, run as admin:

SFC/SCANNOW

chkdsk /r /f *This command may want to run at the next system restart. Please restart and allow it to complete.

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth * IF you get error #87 please reply back here and let us know for further assistance,

SA

OK I ran the SCAN command and it went well with NO integrity violations.
I copied your chkdsk /r /f * to the command line but it says ““the drive, the path or the filename is not valid”” … tried removing blanks in the cmd but that did not help.

That command is chkdsk /r /f

SA

CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]
In your command example I don’t see the volume, path filename parameters?

Only the boot drive will run this check. No need for drive parameters.

SA

OK … I tried just chkdsk /r and that works.

Windows 7 is so old, I haven’t worked on a W7 machine in ages so pardon my forgetfulness.
SA

No Probs SoulAsylum, the last system I worked on was much much older… DOS/VSE IBM mainframe back in the 70’s. I hate the unstructured nature of Windows.DOS but we can’t live without a computer these days.
Both chkdsk /f & /r finished with NO error issues detected.
I’ll continue now with dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth *

Remove the * from that command line. dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

Is there any other security software installed on the system? Old version of Norton maybe?

SA

Yes, did that. Got error 87?
strong text

Yes, the previous years version of Norton. I renew it once a year.

CheckHealth option was not recognised in this context?

I was thinking of uninstalling Norton and then reinstall but was worried about losing Norton Password Manager data.

Perform a removal only scenario with the Norton removal tool: Use this guide and pay close attention to step #5. This is what I suggest you do. When removal is done reboot. Once rebooted the tool may suggest you reinstall. Don’t. Manually remove any folders/files you can find from drive C:\ and restart once again.

Download your Norton product again from within your Norton account and install. Follow on-screen prompts and lets see if it installs and activates with the new key.
