Yearly issue | Norton Utilities 16 Core product file(s) have been modified

Yes our Yearly issue is back for Norton Utilities 16 as the Core product file(s) have been modified (error pop-up attached).

Have updated NIS then rebooted and no change to NU16 startup error.

Any idea how long for a fix.  Last year was wonderfully fast fix.  Thanks

Hi gilgil;

I have had both installed for the past 6 months-no issues-no compatibility impacts. I was actually surprised since I had heard there were concerns within earlier years between NUPremium and other NU versions as could not be installed together. In fact, it is my suggestion that somehow Norton work some the format/process/technologies from NU16 into NUPremium. I love the privacy bleach feature in NU16 and the compact registry. It would be awesome if they worked both of these into a one major comprehensive tool. If anybody else has had any issues-thoughts, please keep me honest here. Oh, by the way, I had NU16 installed already-prior to NU Premium. That may make a difference. Thanks-

Yes, I also see the download link of NU Premium (17) in my account. I just installed it on a new PC I bought yesterday.

But if it is possible, I would like to keep both NU 16 and NU 17 on my second older PC.

Anyone tried to install NU 17 on a PC that already has the old NU 16 installed?

Brilliant, thanks

? (Help) > About Norton Utilities Premium gives you the version.  wink

To all that hung in there to this bitter sweet end there is a rainbow of sorts.  A popup from NU16 as mentioned saying go look at your account.

When there you may or may not find NU16 Premium. If not I do not know other than to pester them.

That is the critter to install, but if it is not good to go you may have to do this to your account. Turn off Auto Renewal and then turn it back on.   NU should now be green lit to download.

Once installed (after uninstall of NU16) you will have another version of NU16 but is Premium with a expiry date of 2050.  Complicated program and not suited for novices.  GUI could be a whole bunch more user friendly.

So I guess they had enough of me/us and called it a loyalty program.

So yes you have to have Auto-Renew turned on.  If turn it off it will deactivate (as best can tell as I have not tried it).

oh,,ya, am told will get updates for it so no idea how version # will go.

I misspoke it is NU17 Premium as per file version. I have found nothing any where that says ver 17 but heh expires in 2050  as long as keep the Auto-renew on.

I will leave this open for comments and then will mark it as Solved next week.

well... after months..........  of waiting for an answer.  At least they finally come out and admit it.   Very piss though.. they should have at least offer existing user a year of NU17.   I would never setup auto renewal. I can purchase 10 user license of NIS about $29.   Why would i ever pay for full price renewal?

Yes the Pop-up : Important Message About Your Norton Utilities blah, blah Support for NU16 ends Sept 30 / 2020 After this date NU will no longer receive updates.

Now was this a surprise, no as we have not had any support since 2019.

The big thing is the blackmail to keep Auto-renew going or loose ability to install NU17.  Leave it on Auto-renew after or loose NU17.      Such magnanimous offer; Or did the intend to offer it with Magnanimity which neither is perfect.

So how many poor sods still be a counting ??

Although not an official announcement here in the forum, at least we now know what is happening with this product.

Nine months and counting. That's how much Norton cares about you...

Well, here we are moving towards the end of summer with not a hint of remorse or a solution that we the users and buyers see as appropriate.

Also having to agree to a new Terms of Conditions that are to the extreme and would like to say more but :

agree not to:

  • upload, post, email, transmit, or otherwise make available any Forum Content that is unlawful, harmful (including harmful to NortonLifeLock's reputation), threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable

All I can say is yes it would be very damaging and it has been a tortious wait and yes i would like to be defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous & objectionable to the way all users have been treated with a non-solution, solution.

Well, guess we will see you next month, everyone keep up the good spirited monthly comments to keep this open.

Thanks Jon-I sure hope Roberson can share some information. I think any of us would even appreciate a response such as; 'this program is no longer supported however, we can still decide to use, etc etc.'  An answer would have been respectful. I just cannot figure what is going on here. Ok, I advised earlier I do use Norton Premium and while its no '16', I use both and they work well-with exception of the '16' error. What I do fine interesting, Premium shared about its 3rd product update since my purchase. I was very curious about the program earlier in the year but will be very dishonest if I say I will renew. I absolutely will not and its only due to this major lack of interest of satisfying a basic need of product purchasing consumers. I just cannot figure how they can do this for so long...... We shall see....

This is a follow up to the posting that I made last night.  About 2 hours ago - about 22 hours late - I received a phone call from Norton Tech Support.  I spoke with a very nice man name Roberson about this problem.  He proceeded to tell me that he had been well informed of  by Kat. When he told me what he knew, I realized that he was fed the wrong information.  I quickly let him know that the problem was not with Norton Utilities Premium as he had been told, but with Norton Utilities 16.  He really understood what I was trying to tell him.  He took the time to listen to me and said that he would get back to me as soon as he got an answer from other members of the tech support team.  And as soon as I have something new to report, I will.

So tonight I received an email from Norton asking me to participate in a survey.  It was about Norton Security 360.  There was a question asking me if in general I would recommend Norton (all products) to other people.  And it went from 0 (the worst) to 10 (the best).  I gave it a zero.  When asked why, I told the good folks at Norton about the issued with NU16.  And then I was given the option of calling customer support.  Yes, I was given an actual telephone number with a case number.  I was surprised.  But I did call.  I spoke with a very nice lady named "Kat" who kept putting me on hold to talk with her supervisor about the NU16 problem of the core files being modified.  She kept coming back saying that this problem did not affect functionality at all.  I could not make her understand that scheduled scans would not work because of this issue.  Finally, after being put on hold three times, I asked to speak with a supervisor.  So I was put on hold again.  Kat came back and promised me that a supervisor would call me at my phone number (the one that I gave her) within the hour to help resolve this issue.  Well, it's been 3 1/2 hours and I have not received a phone call at all.  I doubt that I will.  But at least I got Norton's customer phone number.  So in the spirit of fair play, to help out all my fellow "Nortonians" affected by this problem, and because I don't like being lied to, I am giving this number to all of you publicly.  The Norton customer telephone number is 1-800-745-6034. Maybe some of you will have better luck than I did.  Please keep me posted.  Thanks!

Eight months and counting. That's how much Norton cares about you...

just curious:  what did you replace NU with?  NU16 is literally falling apart so I want to move on as well.

I have uninstalled and replaced Norton Utilities 16.  I decided it was not going to be fixed.

(photo shown) Yea..and I spoke way too soon to another person who advised that the status can be corrupt as should be no issues.  I did a system defrag  over and over again and continues to mention the last defrag was completed in July. No doubt the program is finished and just verifies how incorrect they can be to state the program works fine. I just know our aggravation only stands at simply being ignored via our request for help and program status by Norton..

Hi, considering the time past and being ignored you might want to start that idea now.

The only satisfaction I get is to keep this thread alive by posting 1x per month.

I may close the thread as solved with a Peter statement when it makes it's 1 yr anniversary.

A proper response addressing the issue brought forward with proper and correct information is all I ask for, though a freebie might be nice for lack of respect.

I wonder how this thing is found when I am on this page and then log in it says page not found, it also says the same when I log out. The stupid : "it works" post comes up a lot for this issue.

Please do comeback and make your voice heard. !
