AntiTrack plugin for Firefox keeps updating

Issue abstract:Firefox plugin keeps requesting updating to latest release

Detailed description: Despite having updated everything on my machine to the latest releases, every time I use the Firefox browser the AntiTrack plugin keeps requesting to update to the latest release. And it keeps doing that even if I rerun the update.

I also tried uninstalling all Norton apps, cleaning up my machine, and reinstalling again, but that didn’t help.

AntiTrack does what it needs to do, but this is very annoying.

Product & version number: Norton 360 (v25.12.10659.2190), Norton AntiTrack (v4.5.6658.13316), AntiTrack Firefox plugin (v4.6.0.4373), Norton Driver Update (v26.1.6336.7222), Norton Utilities Ultimate (v26.1.18388.8642)

OS details: Windows 11 Pro 25H2 build 26200.7628

Same issue here, did one time only the Antitrack app update, but ff extension still complains. I am just ignoring it.

I have the same configuration, but I do not have this systematic request to upgrade to the latest version.

What is your language Norton, PC and Firefox ?
And you have Firefox 147.0.2 or Firefox ESR ?

I can suggest you disable the automatic update mode of the Norton Antitrack Firefox extension. Does this provide at least a temporary solution to your problem ?

I believe ignoring is safer, even if it means to see an annoying message.

Like the rest of my machine and software, Firefox and the Norton software is in US English.

I’m using v147.0.2 x64 of Firefox, which is like the rest of the environment fully up to date with the latest releases. And switching of the auto-update option of the plugin doesn’t help. There’s however a difference between the release of the app and the plug-in which strikes me as odd.

I also got a pop-up today from the Firefox extension while I was browsing (FF: 147.0.2 / Norton Antitrack: 4.5.6658.13316 / Norton Antitrack Extension for Firefox: 4.6.0.4373).

This pop-up prompted me to update Norton Antitrack.

When I clicked on it, it downloaded the “Norton_AntiTrack_Installer.exe” installer, ultimately reverting to version 2.8.0.2994 (with a new “terminal ID” but the same PSN).

I will re-downloading Norton Antitrack from my MyNorton account tomorrow to reinstall the latest version.

Please let me know if you need any information to reproduce the bug.

Windows : Norton AntiTrack 4.5 Build 6658.13316 for Windows 29/01/2026
Mac : Norton AntiTrack 2.0.5 for Mac 29/01/2026
IPhone/IPad : Norton Antitrack 1.3.1 17/07/2025
Android : Norton Antitrck 1.0.7 30/06/2025

FYI, my Norton account also sends me the installer in version 2.8.0.2994 !

We have temporarily reverted the Windows installer to the previous version because we are still in the throttle phase for the Windows platform. That’s why you received the previous version of the installer when downloading it from your My Norton account.

You are correct about the versions on the other platforms.

Ok, it’s clearer.
In any case, thank you very much for the explanation, it’s reassuring !
Hoping that this return to the previous version for technical reasons will only be short-lived.
A particular reason why only the Firefox extension offers the return from version 4.5 to 2.8, and not the edge or chrome extension it seems?

The version number you are referring to (4.5 and 2.8) are client version. It has nothing to do with the Firefox extension(which is 4.6.0.4373).

Sorry my message was obviously not clear. But it seems to me that there is indeed a problem !

I do not represent a priori an isolated case, because there are 2 recent similar messages on the community :

Since the last update of Norton Antitrack, when I browse the internet, I have received the following message encouraging me to update the client version of Norton Antitrack to a more recent version. A priori for no reason and also for users who are already on the latest version.
(and a priori only on Firefox? This remains to be confirmed but I have never received this message from Chrome or edge !)

=> Some people complain that pressing the button does nothing.
=> On my side, 10 days ago, on my first PC, when I clicked on this pop-up, it downloaded the “Norton_AntiTrack_Installer.exe” installer, ultimately reverting to client version 2.8.0.2994 (with a new “terminal ID” but the same PSN) from the 4.5 Build 6658.13316 for Windows. On the other hand, it is noted that returning to the old version made this recurring pop-up disappear on this computer.
=> Today, on my second PC, I have the same message (still from Firefox) with a version 4.5 client. Clicking on the pop-up ultimately results in the download of the installer file of the same version.(more details in the screenshot below).

I hope the description of the issue is explained more clearly this time and again sorry. I obviously remain available if additional information is needed.

Reporting same issue is happening from Japan. A prompt apper nearly every time after a few page switch after Firefox launched.

We’ve identified the situation across all supported browsers. A fix has already been released for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge in the Norton AntiTrack extension v4.7.0.4542.

For Firefox, we’re working with Mozilla on a new extension build (v4.8.0). It will be rolled out to everyone as soon as it passes their review and approval process. Once published, the update should install automatically for you.

Unfortunately, there are no updates from the Firefox.

We are still working with them closely to get it approved and published.

Once they approves the build, we will post the announcement.
