I used V24 for a few weeks, just to give it a chance to see if the problems were temporary. All problems stated in previous responses I have encountered. No fixes were seen, no useful replies were received from Symantec. I really had no good idea if my network was actually protected, even though Norton 360 claimed it was. The ONLY solution I found was to uninstall V24, use the old V22 install files and revert back to V22, now all works as it should. Likely it is just a matter of time until V24 is forced on subscribers, V24 does NOT work and too many features were removed or hidden, but nobody at Symantec listens or hears the users, time to start looking for an alternative.
Well I was âmigratedâ to V24 without ever being asked or given any choice to opt out, so Iâd say the time has already arrived for subscribers to be forced over to V24. Iâm not half way through a 2 year subscription so unless there is a way to get a refund, it is either stick with it for another 14 months or write off the cost and move to something else.
When checking Security History, why is Software Updater marked as High Severity when there are no updates found (ie required). Surely that should be regarded as good and given a Green Flag.
This is why I always keep the previous installation files. Updates occasionally donât download properly, or the update does not work as expected (V24). This gives me the ability to go at least one step back to a working version. So until this version is deprecated I will just run my subscription out and move to something else. Buggy updates for commercial security software is not acceptable, ever.
@WalkingMan ⊠Same question here about Software Updater. I have mine set to off and it still runs anyway. Same with Live Update, it runs anyway. This V24 simply does what it wants.
Does anybody know if there are any moderators from Norton in this community? I havenât seen one, though Iâve sent the link to this entire thread to two different Avenues of Norton Support. I doubt theyâll ever look through here.
Yep ⊠also seeing software updater run even though I have it set to off.
⊠NEW ISSUE - Anybody know how to clear the INBOX in the upper right of the user interface. I started getting an âofferâ for 3 free months if I activate my auto-subscription. If I login and view the offer my inbox clears. As soon as I reload the Norton interface my inbox gets the message again. I see no way to clear this ongoing âofferâ message.
In addition. My subscription time remaining now lists as 'active; instead of the days remaining on my subscription, even though I donât have auto-renwal activated. âActiveâ used to only appear if a user has auto-renewal applied, otherwise it should list days left on the current subscription.
This âactiveâ status appeared the same time I started getting pestered to activate auto-renewal for 3 free months ⊠which as mentioned I canât seem to clear from my inbox!
Once again, this software is a buggy mess
me too
Hello @Brocktoon
Curious, did you turn off Mute special offers?
Curious, are you signed in at Norton user interface?
Do you see three dots â Ignore?
for example:
There is no 3 dots on âinboxâ offer. Just a button for âlearn moreâ If I click on learn more the message goes away and says âall messages have been resolved or ignoredâ, only for the message to reappear as soon as I click back on the home screen.
I am also getting another note about the 3 month offer at the bottom of my home screen, as well as another message/offer at the top of may account screen.
I also keep getting a pop up from the task bar icon to activate my subscription renewal for 3 free months even though I selected donât mention again. Also muted special offers in the notification settings. Norton doesnât seem to care âŠ
Hi again @bjm. Weâve last talked about a week ago. Youâre the guru, but my thoughts are ⊠weâre all fighting a losing battle here trying to find fixes for a ton of issues with V24. I donât believe there are any. Itâs up to Norton and I forget their new parent company to fix this whole mess of an app, or people will simply buy into a competing product like McAfee as an example. Weâre paying them for our headaches. I donât believe thatâs the way itâs supposed to be.
Hello @majorbuzz
Weâre all disappointed nâ wondering how v24 issues got this far.
We all wish Norton had an active public beta channel.
My experience with v24 has been as expected.
Iâve played with v24 setting numerous times and reinstalled v24 numerous times.
On my W10 daily rider & dust collector machines v24 functions/features/device protections feels differentâŠalbeit, feels solid.
v24 (2024) user comments remind me of v22 (2014) user comments.
v22 (2014) user comments remind me of v15 (2008) user comments.
=======================================
Iâve Reset to Default multiple times.
Iâve run Repair Norton multiple times.
Iâve reinstalled and clean installed multiple times.
Iâve experienced settings multiple times.
Iâve run all scans multiple times.
Iâve run Back Up This PC multiple times.
Iâve tested known malware samples multiple times.
Iâve restarted my machine multiple times.
fwiw ~ my daily rider machine
v24 is lacking v22 features/functions.
v24 functions/features/device protections feel differentâŠalbeit, feel solid.
=================================
Note: Iâm not v24 fanboy
Were v24 giving meâŠyour headachesâŠIâd move on
Regards w Respect

Where did I put my v24 User Guide?
Oh waitâŠNorton did not publish v24 User Guide
Nortonâą is part of Genâą - a global company with a family of consumer brands including Norton, Avast, LifeLock, Avira, AVG, ReputationDefender and CCleaner.
@majorbuzz Indeed we are fighting an uphill battle with this release. Thus the reason this thread is up and its pinned. The entities at Norton are reading what is posted here, I guarantee it. We are not shaming anyone with all the comments and suggesting but rather hoping to turn some old issues with releases into action that will be beneficial for both Norton and we the end user. Iâd like to stress that last line very much.
SA
Maybe, no 3 dots â Ignore means Norton is really pushing auto renewal.
Maybe, no 3 dots â Ignore means Ignore only applies to Norton settings and such.
Curious, are you signed in at Norton 360 user interface?
Curious, did you try turning off Remote Management?

I have been increasingly disillusioned with Norton over the past few years and this increases with this release.
NO WAY TO EXIT???!!! Look Norton. Let me remind you who OWNS this PC - ME, not you.
Put the EXIT back on the menu NOW or I will cancel my subscription and go elsewhere.
Also - If I want to PURCHASE additional product I know where to go on the internet to do so - QUIT PUSHING YOUR ADS for UPGRADES at me in the application.
Hi @bjm. Thank You so much for explaining all the testing youâve done, your results, and your feelings about V22 and V24.
May I ask just to make sure Iâm reading you are correctly ⊠when all is said and done about V24 in itâs current state, you feel confident that it is still protecting your computer??? I value your judgement. Thanks in advance for all your help.![]()
@randyvol . Yep. Iâd classify V24 of Norton as âadwareâ all the way.
@bjm. Howdy again. Oh, I know weâre not here to shame Norton. I really hope they are reading this thread and others like it, because on two separate phone calls between me and their support, they will not admit that there is anything wrong with this product. Cheers!
Hello @majorbuzz
Iâve tested v24 similarly as Iâve periodically tested v22.
Iâm not a malware expert.
Iâll throw known malware samples from URLhaus at my browser.
v24 blocks all samples Iâve recently tested.
v24 detection/block feels different vs v22.
a block is still a block
Yes, I miss Download Insight for all downloads.
Yes, I miss Security History More Details.
Yes, I miss v22 Backup. Who knows what they were thinking.
v24 is different. v24 protection engines feel & react differently to threats.
From my reading over on MalwareTipsâŠwho know way more than me. Norton v24 is Avast with Norton seasoningâŠand seems to be well received over on MalwareTips.
New device security gives emâ something new to play with.
Some over on MalwareTips are married to Symantec technology.
Some over on MalwareTips embrace Avast technology with Norton flavoring.
Some are anti-Avast regarding Avast collecting user data. [here]
for example: v24 related over on MalwareTips [here] [here] [here] [here]
The whole Gen taking over the industry. Thatâs another can of worms.
Sure, I would have preferred v24 release was done differently. I have my own ideas on how Iâd release major upgrades. Just me.

some are just not happy [here]
