Thread for version 24.xx issues and suggestions

Bonsoir,

@bjm Personally, I will take the December 13th post with a grain of salt. What should happen is Norton should pull the plug on 24.xx entirely so we can revert back to things that work. Norton / GenDigital are bleeding customers otherwise. When the proper “in house” vetting/testing is done for Windows and MAC then release 24.xx back to the public, certified. Not keep customers in BETA. Just my dime on the issues.

Respectfully

Unknowingly forced upgrade to v.24 without asking me. A user preference for manual Program Control in firewall.

Since the new upgrade, for every app block rule a new Smart Mode Allow rule has been added to each app. I thought that the Block rule being higher and above would overrule the upgrade added Default Smart Mode Allow but no. App managed to access without prompting me. Surely a risk that the upgrade allowed this?

Also when browser opens, it used to tell me the DNS name of website to allow or block. Now it doesn’t show me eg Google, it just shows what appears to be DNS reverse lookup name xxxxxxxx-in-xx.1e100.net.
How can I disable reverse lookup so firewall popup tells me the proper website name. We don’t all know reverse lookup names!?

Thanks

as test: Automatic Program Control → Ask
Allow chrome.exe to access the internet?

1e100.net is a domain name owned by Google that identifies the servers in their network

APC was already set to Ask so that was probably picked up by the upgrade but under each application rule where I had set as Block under the previous version now had the block rule plus a new default green smart Allow rule. I had to go through each of my blocked application rules and remove the default Allow smart rule. Strangely the default allow rule let browser out without Ask.

Yes I did google 1e100.net and aware now it is Google. Under the previous version, the program control firewall popup used to tell me browser was attempting to access Google homepage (default homepage on my browser). Why does new version not say attempting to access google.com now since upgrade, why the reverse lookup name that no one recognizes (until they search for it)? The previous version of Norton did.

Hello, community!

After updating Norton 360 Premium to version 24.11.9615, I’ve encountered several issues. Windows continuously shows the message “Windows Firewall and Norton 360 are both turned off”, even though Windows Security states “No actions needed.” I’m unable to disable Smart Firewall through the Norton interface, and repair or reinstall attempts fail with the error: “Problems found. We ran into some issues installing Norton 360 and couldn’t complete it successfully. The application may still function…”

In Firewall & Network Protection within Windows Security, the secure (green) status is no longer displayed. Additionally, attempts to install apps from the Microsoft Store result in Code: 0x80073D0A, which appears to be firewall-related. Windows Security also detected the following threats:

  • Trojan:Win32/MpTamperSrvDisableAV.D
  • VirTool:Win32/DefenderTamperingRestore DisableAntiSpyware
    Affected item:
  • CmdLine C:\Windows\System32\sc.exe stop windefend

I contacted Norton support, but during their remote assistance session, my internet connection was completely lost, showing errors like:

  • “Network doesn’t have a valid IP configuration”
  • “The default gateway is not available.”

I spent over 5 hours trying to fix the issue without success, resorting to a system restore from a backup image, which caused me to lose important files from my Desktop.

I’m sharing this information to ensure it gets noticed by Norton developers as soon as possible and to see if anyone here can help.

Additional Details:

  • Norton 360 Premium, version 24.11.9615
  • Windows 10
  • Errors encountered:
“Windows Firewall and Norton 360 are both turned off”
“Problems found. We ran into some issues installing Norton 360…”
    Code: 0x80073D0A

I have problem #2 as well.

I have encountered the following issues since the new installation:

(1) LiveUpdate from the previous version resulted in Norton 360 not loading on startup. When attempting to uninstall via Control Panel, it failed stating that a previous installation was in progress. I had to restart in Safe Mode in order to uninstall Norton 360. I then clean installed Norton 360 to the new version.

(2) Since installing, I repeatedly receive notifications that the current version is unsupported on Windows 10 (I am on Windows 11 Pro), and I need to install a new version. When going through the process, it states that I already have the newest version.

(3) Frequently unable to run LiveUpdate because it cannot find an internet connection, yet I do have internet and the rest of my system appears to access the internet fine.

(4) When running LiveUpdate, it first requires privileged escalation (Administrator password), then Norton Settings Password, then privileged escalation again. Previously, Norton did not require either privileged escalation or settings password in order to perform a LiveUpdate.

(5) I have used the following settings for years, but they appear to be missing in the new version. Are these currently or will they be available in the future?

-Boot Time Protection: Aggressive
-Behavioral Protection Advanced Mode: Aggressive
-Heuristic Protection: Aggressive
-Block Traffic for Malicious Applications: Aggressive
-Intrusion AutoBlock: 48 hours

Updated my Norton 360 in late October, since then, when using VPN with their new wireguard, I cannot stream UK sites and my computer runs slower. I have contacted Norton help and the last time their experts they promised a call within 3 or 4 days, that is 18 days ago. I have a very slow laptop running windows 8.1 and on a older version of Norton (without wireguard) and this works. The problem is clearly the new wireguard system but Norton seem incapable of resolving the issue.

Bonjour,

You are absolutely right! I agree with you.

I have an update.

This warning appeared for a second PC. The cause: My PC had installed a Windows update and I needed to restart the PC to finish installation. After restarting my PC, the warning went away.

The problem is that the warning message tells you that something is wrong but Norton doesn’t necessarily tell you what’s wrong or how to fix it. I was only able to fix this for my second PC because I suspected what the cause would be The warning still displays for the original PC and I have no idea what’s causing it or how to fix it.

Needless to say, for the second PC, the Fix Now button didn’t help and could not have possibly helped. It didn’t help for the first PC either.

Not exactly sure what you are saying. I had some remote access software running, but not running it didn’t help.

UPDATE: I disabled Enable Remote Desktop in Windows settings and that fixed it.

Norton, if your website says that there’s a problem with a device, then at the very least, the Fix Now button should either fix the problem, or say what the problem is and how to fix it. Meanwhile, Norton for that device should also say that there’s a problem, what the problem is and how to fix it, and maybe even have a Fix Now button.

Norton Safe Web

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed it is back and working in Firefox? It was my understanding that Norton Safe Web would no longer be working in Firefox and would only work within Norton Safe Search (which I do not use) and indeed it was gone for at least a week. However, I just noticed the other day that it is back again. Has Norton had a change of heart or what?

Knock knock Norton. Any update on this POS upgrade? Why can’t we go back to the previous version and stay back until you fix this crap?

Will all these issues, the front end must be embarrassing as well. Look at my screenshots:
