@bjm Personally, I will take the December 13th post with a grain of salt. What should happen is Norton should pull the plug on 24.xx entirely so we can revert back to things that work. Norton / GenDigital are bleeding customers otherwise. When the proper “in house” vetting/testing is done for Windows and MAC then release 24.xx back to the public, certified. Not keep customers in BETA. Just my dime on the issues.
FWIW.
Gave the ‘Startup Scan’ a punt. The results, dunno ?

Unknowingly forced upgrade to v.24 without asking me. A user preference for manual Program Control in firewall.
Since the new upgrade, for every app block rule a new Smart Mode Allow rule has been added to each app. I thought that the Block rule being higher and above would overrule the upgrade added Default Smart Mode Allow but no. App managed to access without prompting me. Surely a risk that the upgrade allowed this?
Also when browser opens, it used to tell me the DNS name of website to allow or block. Now it doesn’t show me eg Google, it just shows what appears to be DNS reverse lookup name xxxxxxxx-in-xx.1e100.net.
How can I disable reverse lookup so firewall popup tells me the proper website name. We don’t all know reverse lookup names!?
APC was already set to Ask so that was probably picked up by the upgrade but under each application rule where I had set as Block under the previous version now had the block rule plus a new default green smart Allow rule. I had to go through each of my blocked application rules and remove the default Allow smart rule. Strangely the default allow rule let browser out without Ask.
Yes I did google 1e100.net and aware now it is Google. Under the previous version, the program control firewall popup used to tell me browser was attempting to access Google homepage (default homepage on my browser). Why does new version not say attempting to access google.com now since upgrade, why the reverse lookup name that no one recognizes (until they search for it)? The previous version of Norton did.
After updating Norton 360 Premium to version 24.11.9615, I’ve encountered several issues. Windows continuously shows the message “Windows Firewall and Norton 360 are both turned off”, even though Windows Security states “No actions needed.” I’m unable to disable Smart Firewall through the Norton interface, and repair or reinstall attempts fail with the error: “Problems found. We ran into some issues installing Norton 360 and couldn’t complete it successfully. The application may still function…”
In Firewall & Network Protection within Windows Security, the secure (green) status is no longer displayed. Additionally, attempts to install apps from the Microsoft Store result in Code: 0x80073D0A, which appears to be firewall-related. Windows Security also detected the following threats:
I contacted Norton support, but during their remote assistance session, my internet connection was completely lost, showing errors like:
“Network doesn’t have a valid IP configuration”
“The default gateway is not available.”
I spent over 5 hours trying to fix the issue without success, resorting to a system restore from a backup image, which caused me to lose important files from my Desktop.
I’m sharing this information to ensure it gets noticed by Norton developers as soon as possible and to see if anyone here can help.
