Thread for version 24.xx issues and suggestions

My home screen in the lower left is not displaying correctly along with the page that appears when you select expand.

Version 1.0.77 most of the time you can not run a LiveUpdate.

(without problems) = I’d need specific examples to offer specific comments.

I must be the odd man out. v24 runs
as expected
okay
for me.

recall: our conversation here n’ here

recall: I ran clean install for Device Name N/A issue here

Hello @majorbuzz
I initially had website loading issues

Since, my initial v24 clean install. I don’t have website loading issues.

and fwiw ~
I’ll run one Full Scan after clean/reinstall.
Full Scan = manual
Quick Scan = manual
Smart Scan = once - then ignore
Share app-usage data = off

@bjm @majorbuzz My side. Things that I set to correct issues get reset again and again. The release is BETA, period. We should NOT be having to jump through all the hoops we are all doing to have a major antiviral suite look, feel and act like one. IT, should be monitoring US, not the other way around. Below are some screenshots to backup my side. This is not the first time this has happened its the third.

From a cold morning boot, the VPN service decides it wants to load with Windows a third time.

Norton decided to insert a fresh registry entry, undo my previous system services edit of the VPN service being set to “manual”. Manual doesn’t mean during a cold boot nor a restart.

I NOW have this service start type set to “disabled”. Waiting for it to restart itself a 4th time.

In a nutshell my 2 cents is not much has changed since the initial release of 24.xx no matter the build. Software Updater runs when the *ell it feels like doing so. Installed extensions do not show in the UI, making things worse, that area just freezes when opening. To close it I must close the UI entirely. This device shows N/A for its device name in the UI and isn’t on the correct subscription, not the correct product key as one is NOT listed for it, its under a serial number I have zero clue where it came from. So my side this is a MESS compared to the previous 22.xx version we were using prior. Oh, last but certainly not least, between 9 installs one shows as Norton 360 Ultra, 4 show as Norton 360 Deluxe and 1 on mobile shows as N360. This is the 2nd time in a year the account mess has happened right at renewal time.

My current Norton sub for Norton Security Ultra expires in 12 days. At that time I am removing Norton from all my devices and allowing the Windows devices to run WD for a few days so that Windows returns itself to the normal state it should be. At a later time I will install N360 Deluxe on one device with a new N360 product key. Hoping things are correct all the way around, the UI, in my account and no more monkey business lol. End of rant.

Norton 360 has been slow and glitchy since the 24.xx update, but now it’s getting ridiculous. Today I got a glitched out popup covering the entire right side of my screen that had no way to close it. After many attempts, the only way I could find to get rid of it was powering down the computer entirely and restarting. Norton is now causing more problems than it’s ever solved for me. Cancelling my subscription, I’ll get something else.

Adding another post where as similar issue I am having appears.

@SoulAsylum and @bjm. I can’t thank you both enough.
What I take away from your writing SA is, you’ve had enough of V24, and certainly don’t think highly of it. I loved your rant.
BJM and I have also gone back and forth here and I walk away with something along the lines of
it isn’t what V22 was, has had to deal with issues as well, but in the long run believes that it is protecting our computers.
I think my mistake was ever going into history and seeing LU run 5 times in an hour, and continues to do so even when I set it to manual. Software Updater also will run once or twice a day even though it is shut off. Things like this peeve me. So I suppose I’ll just stay out of history, run live update manually everyday, and pretend that this version ROCKS!!! LOL Thanks again gentlemen for all you’ve both been doing on this AND other threads.

Norton really needs to read this thread through carefully if they want the Norton product to survive.

Hello @majorbuzz
Well, my v24 just went wonky.
start here

Bonsoir @bjm @majorbuzz @SoulAsylum,

It’s been several months now since this mess was introduced and we seem to be no nearer to getting it fixed.

Has this disaster reached the various computer magazines reviews/opinions columns yet, or maybe the letters sections?

There are so many computer magazines/websites that I can’t check them all.

The only way to get Norton’s attention seems to be bad publicity.

Bonjour,

This morning I found in history where remote access protection was disabled at a time when I was actively on this PC working. Shutdown for the evening was a bit more than an hour after this occurred. No notification was given this took place. No live updates session ran. Where does this all end?

Just now I found a new build was installed, to build 887. LU session was two hours ago while away from the machine. No restart notice.

Bonsoir,

The question that needs to be answered is why is a security product vital for protection of data and networks so full of questionable changes. I have actively been removing V24 and keeping V22 on all my systems due to the inability to readily control firewalls and network setings, windows does not acknowledge some protection even though Norton claims “Protected”, too many other settings that are easily accessed in V22 are gone (or hidden) in V24. Symantec is really messing up with this version.

Gen Digital Inc. (formerly Symantec Corporation and NortonLifeLock Inc.) is a multinational software company co-headquartered in Tempe, Arizona and Prague, Czech Republic.

On October 9, 2014, Symantec declared it would split into two independent publicly traded companies by the end of 2015. One company would focus on security, the other on information management. On January 29, 2016, Symantec sold its information-management subsidiary, named Veritas, and which Symantec had acquired in 2004, to The Carlyle Group. On August 8, 2019, Broadcom announced they would be acquiring the Enterprise Security software division of Symantec for $10.7 billion. After the acquisition, Symantec became known as NortonLifeLock. After completing its merger with Avast in September 2022, the company adopted the name Gen Digital.

Nortonℱ is part of Genℱ - a global company with a family of consumer brands including Norton, Avast, LifeLock, Avira, AVG, ReputationDefender and CCleaner.

Ok Gen Digital is really messing up with this version. Keep this version as an option for the folks that think it is what they want/need, but keep the original interface for us that need to control network, firewall, backups (local, cloud not an option), all with a full control set. Split the product into a Home versus a professional version, you can play games with the home crowd, my network security is not a beta test arena. There are alternatives to this product, when my subscription expires an alternative will be implemented if this is the way Norton is going.

Norton installed automatically version 24.11.9615 on my Windows 11 machine today. Once it did so, I lost the capability to browse the internet. It was only through my own troubleshooting that I determined that I could resume browsing the web once I disabled “HTTPS Scanning” under Security > Advanced > Browser Protection. If I enable this feature, ability to browse the web stops.

The behavior is the same no matter what web browser I use. I’ve tried Edge, Chrome, and Firefox.

Anything I can troubleshoot to allow this feature to be enabled AND be able to browse the web?
