Thread for version 24.xx issues and suggestions

fwiw ~ my understanding = v24 protection updates are streaming definitions

I’m ignoring Software Updater

BJM. I’m assuming that we both have issues. Me with both Live Update and Software Updater. Do you have issues with live update if you were to turn it off for a full day? If so, what do you make of all his?

Why would I want to / need to turn off LiveUpdate?
What are you trying to prove?

make of all what?

Sorry, I must have missed a message or two.
One thread for v24 issues and suggestions…confuses me.

Hi BJM. Yes I can see you are all over this entire thread, so maybe you are a bit confused.
I originally posted that even if I turn Software Updater off it still runs roughly once a day. You put up a screen shot of yours running as well if you turn it off. The same applies for Live Update. In the last version of Norton V22 I set it to manual and ran it myself because in that version you could actually view what definitions you were getting. So that’s why I set this new one V24 to manual. So I noticed in history that it was running anyway. It shouldn’t do that. So I asked you if you wouldn’t mind setting yours to manual for a day and see if it ran. I’m curious to know if this issue is happening on my computer or everybody’s. If you’re uncomfortable doing that, you can of course run it manually just once so you are up to date first.

Hello @majorbuzz
Okay…I’ll post back Tuesday, October 29

OK BJM. Thanks so much. :slightly_smiling_face:
Please post a print screen if you can.

how do i get the new version i got a norton 360 gamer hope you get me som good intel i has tryet all i get now but it still not work ore is the gamer just not ready to the 24.xx

Here is a new problem. If I put the VPN on I can’t send emails! Something to do with the encryption protocols?? my ISP is Sky.com. Never had that problem before, the VPN just blocked music downloads from Naxos! DaveJ

The new version of Norton installed a couple days ago and I find it hard to believe anyone would be happy with this update. I’m having a lot of trouble with it. My main problem is that I can not use internet or check my mail until Norton is done “spinning”, which can take up to ten minutes. The “cloud” section is taking that long to load. Is there anything I can do? Or do I have to uninstall Norton and get something else? This is extremely annoying and I find it hard to believe Norton issued such a poor version. I would like the previous version but can find no options to revert to that one.

many hate it but it is stupid not to get it so you can now about it and i dont whant it on my normal pc only my tablet and maybe it is not that bad it look like norton utilities ca100% so there is som look a like but many of the new thing i alredy need two disable and it is good to now how you do it and you dont now somthing
if you dont has it and you is force to get it sooner ore later but it is better to now it sooner then later

Hello @majorbuzz
no need for me to wait till Tuesday

Hi @mandc. Yeah, you now have the privilege of being stuck with Version 24. There is no way to go back. You’re going to have to live with SOoooo many issues this version has, some of which you are experiencing. After all my reading in various communities, this version looks like it’s really never been beta tested. I wouldn’t re-install it. I would try calling their support number (overseas). I myself haven’t had issues with internet connection or what you refer to as “Spinning Up”, but I’m not using their cloud backup. I have many other issues though.
There are a couple of very technical guys on this thread. They may be able to help to a degree, but from all I’m experiencing and reading, this version is pure crap.

@majorbuzz Many apologies for the tardy reply. I will check those settings and reply back tomorrow in the am with my history results. This thread has a boatload of issues and I am seriously glad everyone is participating. That is the way things get ironed out and possibly give a different perspective to those who may be at Norton, taking all this in.

I have norton 360 premium for 10 PCs. Just started using the new version. So far its really bad. Here are some of the issues I have encountered.

System tray notifications pop up so slowly. Like I am downloading a picture on dialup worse than 28.8kbps.

Download intelligence no longer works at all. Whenever I download anything it never scans, I never receive a notification whether it is ok or not. No scans for download file insight or anything scanned in history. Regardless of file location on any drive. Nothing gets scanned.

Makes me feel unsafe that real time protection is not working properly at all. As I have run scans on compressed files I know are unsafe to test and version 23 would flag and quarantine. Version 24 says they are now safe!!

Product setup is stuck on 2/5 under the home button. Cant get this annoying notification to go away even though I finished it multiple times. Other settings seem to be ok.

Whenever I scan a file or folder. The scan details are lacking. It doesnt tell you what files were scanned. Just the total amount. No option anymore to see detailed report. Even in text log there is no detailed info on what files were scanned.

There is no longer settings for USB, but only a notification that takes forever to popup. Not sure why the things you will actually need/use have been taken away. Like full screen detection.

I also dont like that it really no longer uses symantec apps but now seems to be using avast software. Which is very disconcerting. This whole merger is not good. Too many eggs in one basket under Gen Digital now and it makes for a far less safe eco system.

I tried to completely uninstall norton 360, deleted all left over folders as well in multiple directories including the appdata folders. Even after a clean re-install these issues remain.

I have now uninstalled completely and back to using Windows Defender until all these issues have been fixed. If it hasnt been fixed by my renewal which comes up in March. I am cancelling all my subscription.

Firefox 131.0.3 (64-bit)
Win 10 Pro build 19045.5011

CPU: i9-9900K 4.7GHz
RAM: 32GB 3200MHz
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080
SSD: 1TB NVMe

Thanks for the reply. By “spinning”, I mean that little circle keeps going around and around, while it’s loading. So I start with a blank screen and a spinning circle for maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Then it seems to load, except the lower half of the start-up screen, which still spins. And when it’s finally loaded, the lower half will “spin” again if I minimize Norton and then maximize it again.

The “cloud” section took ten minutes to load last night. Internet works, but niether Firefox or Outlook wil work until Norton is done. Firefox crashed twice last night - and I’ve never had that before in all the years I’ve used it. Is it possible to turn off their cloud? I can’t find any options on this version at all - this is just not good enough.

Other problems so far - it’s changed network setting from “public” to “private” a couple of times, so that’s something you have to keep you eye on. How is this an improvement? And re-booting is no longer a practical option. My computer re-boots in 30 or 40 seconds, with Norton spinning around, it took five minutes or more. I made that mistake twice, so I have to turn it off and then back on.

I’ve done a couple of full scans - the first one put 6 PUP’s in quarantaine it found under win32 and win64. The older version did not find these - so either the older version didn’t work or this version doesn’t work - they can’t both be right, can they?

I might try to re-install it and/or try to call them. But right now I don’t have time to mess around trying to fix what shoulnd’t need fixing. Paying customers shoudn’t have to be trouble-shooters for this product. I got Norton so I wouldn’t have to worry about the computer, but that’s in the past it seems.

Is this version safe or should it just be un-intalled and replaced with something that works?

Oh great. What next. Last time I tried it, it sucked with local searches pertinent to my country. It starts to look like their aim now is to make the product worse every day. I think I’ll switch to something else and get it over with.

i’m seriously considering to just get rid of Norton completely from my 4 PC’s. I mean why would anyone try to destroy something that is already working. This version really really Bad.

FWIW.
The ‘Security History’ is incrementing ‘Connected to Network’, WiFi & LAN very quickly. See attached.

The ‘connection’ isn’t dropping in & out, and the router only shows single connections and disconnections. The spare capacity on C:\ is not filling up with massive amounts of ‘log files’.

So does this mean the color coded box will no longer be available in the toolbar area of Chrome / Firefox ? Or is it just the checkmarks on the google searches (which already disappeared). Will Safe Web still block malicious sites even if it’s no longer showing the ratings?

I’m curious to understand what this means, as I’m not switching to or adding Safe Search into my browsers
