For those who wish to revert to the older version prior to 24.xx there is a download link to get that installer. Use the removal tool for 24.xx from here: https://www.norton.com/nortonremover

Older version installer:
https://norton.com/cspn360

My posted suggestion to keep your install from updating back to 24.xx: NOTE - Do this at your own risk. I have this done on a test machine where it has been running for over 1 week. It works

To keep your virus definitions current use the Intelligent Updater:

I’m

Just noticed my local backup drive has disappeared to in Norton security from my computer section from the Norton backup drive.? Loved seeing my backups without opening the browser. Just annoyed now that it’s gone to need to bring it back.

Hello. Did your Norton install by chance just upgrade to version 24.xx ? If so that is one of the features the new version removed.

Folks, I think I have some news. It appears Norton is listening. I had to reset a laptop and accidentally downloaded the latest version. Lo and behold, Local Backups are back. However, it does not recognize anything except C drive. None of my network drives are visible. Keep working at it Norton.

Yes. It is a great news ! For more information you can read the announcement :

Norton Security 24.12.9694 HAS STILL NOT RESORED THE CAPABILATY TO LOCAL BACKUP TO A NETWORK DRIVE!!!

Until this is NORTON has NOT restored useful capability that is needed by their clients.

VERY POOR BEHAVIOUR…

@RobertS Unfortunately there’s nothing we Gurus can do other than keep reporting the issues. I’ve suggested time and again for users to revert to the older version and stay on it until this fiasco has its issues ironed out. It is 100% functional. It is apparent that Norton doesn’t want to give us back the control of how we can best use its software to meet our needs. I’m staying on 22.24.8.36 until the cows come home if it takes that long. Something will give way, either with customer abandoning the software or features we used added back. I have zero clue which it will be nor when.

Edited: At some point I have the notion that the link to download 22.24.8.36 will disappear. That will be the point where we all will know 24.xx will never be the way we need it to be for us to use for our best benefit.

Regards,
SA

You know I fully agree with you @SoulAsylum

If we hit the point where V22 disappears without restoration of the local backup to a Network drive will be the point I abandon my 10 year + subscription and hope other Norton’s clients punish this bad faith action that they choose to inflict on their loyal subscribers.

I’m hoping and confident for the best results.

Hope they have seen the error and will rectify. I have certainly told them.

This is also a very very poor product planning decision so my confidence in Norton decision making and their respect for their subscribers seems to also be questionable

They will need to find a way to regain their reputation and my confidence in them.

I am cancelling my Norton subscription after many years. Their high handed attitude to their clients (no assistance, no warnings, no choices, products having to be re-installed over and over and every time you have to re set up, etc, etc. I am speaking with my feet from heron in. GOODBYE NORTON - HELLO MCAFEE!!

Detailed description:

Product & version number:

OS details:

What is the error message you are seeing?

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

I have downloaded the install app to ensure it is still available to me, even if the link goes away, but that does not mean the install won’t fail at some point. I will say this, ever since I started this thread and moved back to 22.24.8.36, Norton has not tried to upgrade it to 24. Knock on wood, this stays put for now. If I have to move to another backup option, I have Gigs of data that I will have to restore so as to not lose any data. This is maddening on their part. The Microsoft effect of removing valid and used features is spreading.

Why would you post this when this thread continues to refute everything in that announcement? Norton has failed in the responsibility to their users with this. The good news was they put back local backups, but it still fails with no access to network drives. Way to read the room.

Still no call back - Pathetic

Having the same problem when the new version came in here about 2 weeks ago.
It is not possible anymore to verify a backup on a local drive, eg. USB stick. We all use Norton here for years but shall cancel the contracts in case they are unable to solve that problem.
