Please clarify for me what you mean by “verify a backup on a local drive”?
v24 creates backups on local drives.
I think You got it. The problem is on the last screen where You have to click the button ‘back up erstellen’ (make back up). If I do this nothing happens and the last screen becomes grey /freezes …
No. It does not. V24 does not see USB drives or network drives. Do not tell him that it does.
I tried to submit 4 screenshots but unfortunately this platform is unable to forward them.
However, Mindwalker is right. You complete everything through the process and the files being back uped on the local drive are shown correctly but on the very last display You have to click the button ‘backup erstellen’ (= initiate or make back up)'. The display including the button becomes light grey and You can wait and wait and at least no back up is available.
Hmm. I posted earlier that I saw you can now select the C drive, so maybe they are slowly rebuilding the backup functionality. I haven’t been able to get it to see my USB drives, nor my mapped network drives to my Windows servers.
I don’t know regarding NAS drives.
I finally got impatient for Norton to contact me about my case where I asked NORTON

I installed version 24 on a PC this morning to test this out. You still cannot create a backup set on anything except the C drive. It sees other drives, including network drives, to select files to back up, but you cannot create a backup set on a USB drive, a ROM drive, or a network drive. This is what this thread is all about. Why would I back up a data drive to the same data drive?
Norton MUST put this functionality back. It is now getting to the point that I have involved a lawyer to monitor this situation because if they shut down support of version 22 and I cannot recover the backups, I will be looking at legal options. As RobertS above has posted, their customer service is shit and this thread has a lot of proof of their negligence.
Norton, you’re on notice. Get it fixed!!
Hmm…wonder why my v24 saves backups to my Seagate external drive (D:)
~ again, I don’t know about ROM nor NAS drives.
Just know my old Seagate 500GB external drive works with v24.
24.12.9725 (build 24.12.9725.903)
That’s because you are connecting the drive directly to Windows. Windows recognizes the drive and assigns the drive letter. Norton may be looking at it as a local drive. Network drives on devices that are standalone and mapped are not recognized. Take my word for it. This includes Windows Servers, like I have, and NAS drives. This is what needs to be fixed as it works in version 22 perfectly. I have over a terabyte of data that I backed up using Norton for long term storage and if I can’t get to it, I lose it.
Oh Okay…your issue is with NAS. I thought your reference to local meant my local external drive. Thanks for helping me understand your reference to local also means NAS.
Norton reference to local must mean my Windows connected local external drive.
Link to relevant post which I am updating
Hi Everyone,
In the last few moments finished a call with Norton Level 2 and finally they committed to me an update regarding the restoration of ability to perform a local back to a Network Drive that was removed when V24 was rolled out in Nov 2024.
The update is that
The ability to perform a local back to a Network Drive will be restored when Version 25.2 is rolled out.
Version 25.2 is expected to be available by the end of March 2025. …
Lets hope NORTON do what they say they will do
So they have to go to the next full version to fix what they broke. Interesting.
Thank you for the update. Let’s hope it will read existing backup files.
New version 25 seems to work fine so far. Backuping of complete folders including it’s files on local drives (USB, external SSDs) is functioning after withdrawal of 24 version. Back to the roots after jeopardizing Norton’s business seriously
Why these companies never learn?!? It’s really pathetic they messed up big time on this one. I’ve been using 360 for the past 10+ years and this is it for me if they DO NOT bring back local backup option in the next version ASAP!
Hello @Sriks
and by “local backup” … you mean DAS or NAS?
Either. I just need the local backup & restore option to and from my external hard drive. I have 4 laptops on the 360 account and in total they take up about 5TB backup storage
