Norton Online Cloud Backup Won't Let Me Delete Backups

Norton’s Cloud Online Backup keeps failing to backup for my new laptop! The problem is the amount of space Norton gives and how Norton will NOT allow me to delete OLD backups that are 100% UNNEEDED & THUS UNWANTED! On the web page for the Online Backup they are DELETED yet the Norton 360 App will not show them as deleted and ALL backups keep FAILING as a result - I literally CANNOT delete them! The Manage Backups option ONLY allows me to DOWNLOAD them and I DO NOT WANT THESE BACKUPS AT ALL!

Literally Like Microsoft wanting full control of the computer by not allowing users to have their own say, Norton is doing the EXACT same thing by not allowing users to delete their online backups!

This screenshot literally shows direct proof of this major fact!

Did you try Troubleshooting → Reset to Default?

Yes, I tried troubleshooting; that is the FIRST thing I did idiot! I have had this problem for over 3 weeks since I got my NEW laptop and from day ONE of the new laptop trying to run a backup through Norton Cloud Backup it has ALWAYS FAILED and won’t allow me to DELETE the old backups that I 100% don’t need for Norton decided to backup things I didn’t want backed up that weren’t even set to backup thus taking up all of allowed backup space and now that with my new Laptop and I have wanted to add more to my backup it won’t let me for what Norton Backup forcibly backup the trash no good product won’t let me delete the backups. It lets me delete them on the website then leaves them in the CLOUD on the app with no way whatsoever to delete them!

On top of that, Googling the ISSSUE has shown me that thousands of people have had the 100% exact same problem with Norton Cloud Backup and previous Backups not allowing to be deleted and trying to delete them in the web browser version still leaves them in the app with the app failing to do any new backups!

Hello @jetnova16
Oh…okay…over three weeks…and what does Norton support say about all this?

If your Norton is not working as expected after you’ve tried Troubleshooting → Reset to Default &or Repair Norton & clean re-install Norton 360…then…reach out to Norton support.
Note: Reset to Default resets Cloud Backup

Norton Community is primarily user-to-user “working” product help.

=========================================================

I recall after v24 was pushed on my v22. I clean uninstalled Norton…then deleted all my backups online…then clean installed Norton.

I imagine (new machine) you properly removed any pre-installed security trialware before installing Norton?

My Norton is 100% working as expected it is ONLY the Norton Cloud Backup Feature that doesn’t work and its all do to Norton’s OWN PROGRAMING! THEY FAILED TO INCLUDE A DELETE ABILITY IN THE PROGRAM FOR PAST BACKUPS! THE SCREENSHOT EVEN PROVES THIS MAJOR FACT! THEY ONLY ALLOW YOU TO DELETE THE CURRENT BACKUP AND NOT PAST BACKIUPS! THIS IS AN ISSUE COUNTLESS PEOPLE HAVE HAD WITH NORTON CLOUD BACKUP FOR YEARS SINCE IT WAS INCORPORATED INTO NORTON PRODUCTS!

I have already called a human agent about this on the first day that it was doing this as SOON AS NORTON 360 was installed on my NEW laptop as in it was doing this right out of the box the second it was installed it wouldn’t let me delete my old backups and then right way failed with the new backup for the new computer and then wouldn’t let me delete my old backups to fix it and wouldn’t even keep them deleted on the website version. Calling Norton Support and talking to a real person they didn’t even comprehend the issue and said "just click the delete button under Manage in the app by the backup you want to delete and it will delete. They didn’t even listen to the major fact that with the old backups a DELETE button isn’t available for old backups all there is is the ability to VIEW the backup and restore it but you can’t delete it whatsoever because Norton’s designers are stupid and don’t use their brains!

Furthermore, my new laptop didn’t’ come with any other pre-installed trial software for security whatsoever! Its designers at HP strictly recommended and said to use: Microsoft Defender/Microsoft Security built into Windows 11. This is in fact what everyone does that is using Windows 11 for they don’t waste their money on Security Software that charges outrageous renewal prices far over their initial purchase price! Thus since Windows Defender/Windows Security is built-into Windows 11 I never uninstalled it whatsoever, I just installed Norton because I had it on my old laptop and wanted to keep my Desktop Icon setup and my Taskbar Setup the way I liked it thus keeping full control of my computer and since I had a Pre-Paid Norton Card for Norton 360 (that I was going to use to renew my subscription prior to my old laptop’s power port dying) I used that and installed Norton 360 and logged into my account with the new Product Key! Then Norton 360 wouldn’t shut the hell up in constantly “demanding” that I Backup my new laptop so I activated Norton Cloud Backup and like it was doing on my old laptop it wouldn’t let me delete my OLD BACKUPS and kept failing thus proving the insane fact that Norton Backup is STUPID and won’t let users do what they want and delete what they want for it has done this to countless Norton 360/Cloud Backup Users and has personally done it to me now on THREE (3) Computers (all 3 laptops)!

and furthermore, there is no other problems with my Norton and uninstalling it and even repairing it or even resetting it to Default (AND I HAVEN’T CHANGED ANY SETTINGS ON IT ANYWAYS) still results in the SAME OLD THING, IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO DELETE PAST BACKUPS!

so, one of these is not operable?

did you remove the license for the inoperable machine?
and you have only one Norton account?

============================================

I’m wondering why there’s not enough space for files to move around…your cloud storage is locked up.
I’m wondering why Norton did not stop backing up…when there was enough (required) space to move files around.
It’s like the required overhead space was ignored and now you’re locked up.

Unless overhead / working space is not represented by 125 GB?
I’ll imagine some % of 125 GB is needed for working space.

Do you not KNOW HOW TO READ AND COMPREHEND WHAT YOU READ? - MY OLD LAPTOP IS DEAD! WHAT PART OF DEAD DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND OR COMPREHEND! ITS HARD DRIVE WAS PERFECTLY FINE AND ALL ON IT WAS RECOVERED AND THEN THE DRIVE WIPED AND MADE INTO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FOR MY NEW LAPTOP! THE OTHER LAPTOP ONLY WORKS WELL ON BATTERY ONLY AND IS STUCK ON WINDOWS 10 PERMANENTLY FOR IT CAN NOT HAVE WINDOWS 11, BUT ITS BACKUP IS WHEN IT WAS STILL WINDOWS 7 & PRIOR TO HAVING TO GET IT A NEW HARD DRIVE THUS 100% NO THESE LAPTOPS OTHER THAN THE NEW ONE (THAT I AM USING TO WRITE THIS AS WELL) IS THE ONLY 100% ACCESSIBLE COMPUTER! THUS WHAT PART OF ANY OF THAT DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO COMPREHEND! DO YOU NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF A DEAD COMPUTER AND THUS KNOW HOW TO COMPREHEND THAT WORD WHEN READING IT?!

My CLOUD STORAGE IS TAKEN UP BY THE TWO DAMN BACKUPS THAT I CAN NOT DELETE WHATSOEVER! WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO COMPREHEND! LITERALLY WHEN I HOVER OVER THE BAR FOR SPACE WITH MY LAPTOP CURSOR (MOUSE) IT LISTS THE NAME OF THE BACKUP TAKING THAT SPACE AND BOTH OF THEM ARE FROM THE DEAD OR UNACCESSIBLE LAPTOPS! THE LITTLE SMALL BAR IS THE ONE FROM THE NEW LAPTOP WITH ALL IT CAN BACKUP WITH THE AVAILBABLE SPACE SINCE THE OTHER TWO DAMN BACKUPS CANNOT BE DELETED!
Learn to use your dang brain and think with LOGIC and COMMONSENSE and also COMPREHEND WHAT YOU ARE READING!

Did you delete the licenses for the inoperable machine/s?
I’m trying to imagine how you maxed out 125 GB.
I’m imagining some % must be set aside as working space.
Norton should have stopped at I’m guessing 110 GB…leaving overhead space.
Unless 125 GB is faux number.
I’m trying to imagine how Norton allowed you to max out your allotted storage.

Okay. I hear you. You’re PO’d. I hear you.

I’m trying to imagine why I can delete online backups and clear them from Norton 360 and you can’t.
Your assigned allotted storage is locked up.

Norton needs to help you free up the space.

I’m also trying to imagine how you have 60 GB from the new machine.
Sounds like that’s the entire drive?

NO, I DIDN’T BECAUSE I COULDN’T ACCESS THOSE MACHINES FOR YOUR DAMN INFORMATION! WHAT PART OF THE FACT THAT THEY DIED UNEXPECTEDILY AS IN ONE SECOND WORKING AND THEN ON A RESTART DIED! OR IN THE CASE OF MY PRIMARY OLD HP JUST WOULDN’T TURN BACK ON DUE TO A FAULTY POWER PORT AND THE BATTERY WAY SINCE DEAD AND NOT CHARGABLE! AND AS FOR THE OTHER LAPTOP (A TOSHIBA) IT HAD A HARD DRIVE FAILURE THAT CAUSED IT’S DEATH THAT IT CAME BACK TO LIFE WITH A HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT AND THE INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS 10 ONTO IT AND SINCE THEN IT DOESN’T HAVE THE TRASH KNOWN AS NORTON INSTALLED ON IT TO PREVENT THIS ISSUE WITH NORTON 360 CLOUD BACKUP AND IF IT WASN’T FOR WANTING MY BIGGER SCREEN LAPTOP TO HAVE THE EXACT SAME DESKTOP & TASK BAR SET UP AS I PREFER NORTON WOULDN’T BE ON THIS LAPTOP AT ALL FOR HP STRICTLY RECOMMENDS TO ONLY USE MICROSOFT’S BUILT-IN SECURITY FOR WINDOWS 11 AS IN WINDOWS DEFENDER/WINDOWS SECURITY!

So no I did’t delete the license on the other machine for the major other fact is: THEY WERE EXPIRED LICENSE FOR IT WAS A LICENSE THAT I WAS GOING TO RENEW AT THE END OF THE MONTH (DECEMBER) That Had Expired a few weeks before and to prevent Norton from STEALING my valuable money on a fixed income I had Autpomatic Renewal Turned Off Like it always is so that they cannot steal my money with their outrageous renewal prices and instead I renew through purchasing in my local Wal-Mart a Pre-Paid Card and get a whole new Product Key thus fixing Norton’s highway robbery asses thus stopping them from stealing my money!

And how the hell did I max out 125GB? I have my Game Mod backup via Norton and my Novels as well that I write!

Oh okay…feels like local storage would have been better.

Norton needs to help you free up the space.

WRONG IDIOT! Local Storage WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN GOOD WHATSOEVER FOR A HARD DRIVE FAILURE WOULD HAVE LOST almost 20 Years of hard work from 2007 and still going on (thus 18 years) and the External Drive it was all stored on before actually did have a FAILURE in 2012 that I had to recover from and start everything all over again for the game mod and as such I figured CLOUD BACKUP is 100% BETTER ESPECIALLY WHEN THE GAME REQUIRES FILES THAT CAN NOT BE RENAMED AND THE COMPUTER HAS ISSUES WITH DIRECTORY NAMING SIZES SAYING THAT THE DIRECTORY CAN’T HAVE CERTAIN FILES TRANSFERED TO IT DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE FILE NAME! Thus Cloud Backup was 100% THE WAY TO GO! IF YOU HAD BEEN MAKING A GAME FOR YEARS AND ALSO WRITING DIFFERENT NOVELS FOR YEARS AND HAD TO REDO THEM WITH A HARD DRIVE FAILURE YOU TOO WOULD BE USING A CLOUD BACKUP! THUS COMPREHEND THAT MAJOR FACT AND USE YOUR BRAIN INSTEAD OF SAYING A STUPID AND 100% ILLOGICAL STATEMENT AS YOU HAVE! FOR SUCH A STATEMENT IF I COULD BLOCK YOU FOR YOUR IGNORANCE I WOULD!

Norton CAN NOT HELP ME FREE UP THE SPACE THOUGH! THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT WHATSOEVER! THEY THE ONLINE DELETION SHOULD HAVE DELETED IT FROM THE CLOUD EVEN ON THE APP SINCE THERE ISN’T A DELETE FUNCTION ON THE APP! But IT DOESN’T WORK AND AS SUCH THEY DO NOT GIVE A RATS ASS AND DON"T CARE! This is how they have treated countless people with the same issue.

HECK MAYBE ALL NORTON USERS SHOULD FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM!

Maybe, think of Norton Cloud Backup as supplement to your primary/secondary backup solutions.

AI Overview
It seems like you’re experiencing an issue with deleting old Norton Cloud Backup sets, which is preventing the app from performing new backups. While you might be able to delete backup sets from the Norton web browser interface, the issue persists within the app. This problem can be caused by a few factors, including Norton software issues, corrupted backup data, or service outages.

Here’s a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

Possible Causes:

  • Norton Software Issues:

Norton Community mentions that backup problems can occur due to outdated Norton 360 software, incorrect backup settings, or other software-related issues.

  • Backup Data Corruption:

Corrupted backup data can also interfere with the ability to delete or create new backups.

  • Norton Service Outage:

Sometimes, Norton states that back-end service outages or server maintenance can prevent you from deleting backup data.

  • Storage Space:

Norton Community suggests that the problem could be related to low storage space in your online backup account.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check Norton Service Status:

Before proceeding, Norton Support advises checking the Norton Service Status page to see if there are any reported outages or maintenance activities.

2. Update Norton 360:

Ensure that you have the latest version of Norton 360 installed on your device.

3. Reset to Default Settings:

Norton Community suggests resetting Norton 360 to default settings and then deleting the backup sets online.

4. Delete Backup Sets Online:

If possible, try deleting the old backup sets through the Norton web browser interface.

5. Restart Your Computer:

A simple restart of your computer can sometimes resolve software-related issues.

6. Check for Conflicts:

Ensure that there are no other backup programs running on your computer that may be interfering with Norton Cloud Backup.

7. Check Storage Space:

Verify that you have sufficient storage space available in your Norton online backup account.

8. Contact Norton Support:

If you’ve tried these steps and the problem persists, Norton Community recommends contacting Norton support for further assistance.

Additional Tips:

  • Verify Backup Settings:

Double-check your backup settings within Norton 360 to ensure that they are not causing any conflicts.

  • Examine Backup Files:

If you’re able to access the backup sets within the Norton app, try examining the files within them to see if they are corrupted or causing any issues.

  • Consider a Different Backup Solution:

If you’re experiencing persistent problems with Norton Cloud Backup, you might consider exploring other backup solutions.

You clearly do NOT KNOW HOW TYO USE YOUR BRAIN and think with COMMONSENSE! The Google Terms for the Search Are: “NORTON CLOUD BACKUP NOT ALLOWING TO DELETE BACKED UP FILES”! Once you search that MAJOR FACT you find that throughout the years since Norton Cloud Backup has existed in Norton 360 this no good problem has existed and has been encountered by countless users wanting their SPACE freed so that they can actually backup what they want to backup!
Thus, learn to use your damn no good brain and think with commonsense! Especially since the terminology “Google Search Terms” means that you are searching for the program or feature or something that isn’t working and then you use TEMRS to defined your SEARCH! Any sane person with a brain that is computer Savey should know these terminologies or they shouldn’t be on a website like this claiming to be a GURU who actually knows something! THUS, GET LOST STUPID NO GOOD IDIOT WHO DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO USE HIS/HER BRAIN AND THINK WITH COMMONSENSE!

Oh okay…I’d already used similar search terms & I’d not found your specific scenario.
I’ve been following Norton for 20 years. I’m not recalling user report…as you report.
Yes, users may not be aware that their backup sets may be deleted online.
And Delete Backup initially did not work with v24.
I’ve not found (at this time) your specific scenario…deleting backup sets online &or clean Norton install &or Reset to Default (v24/25) did not clear out unwanted backup sets to free up space.
I’ll keep looking. Granted, I’ve never seen USED: 125 / 125 GB.

Very sad/disappointed that Norton support was not inclined to help you…or, at least try to investigate what went wrong with your specific scenario.

Admitting, on occasion I’ve experience stubborn/problematic Norton processes.
Norton has not always satisfied me.
Norton has not always satisfied all users.
But, I’ve never experienced your specific scenario.

Regards w Respect
